Re: Foreclosure question

Bart, Did you ever think about driving CDL trucks ??.
I made a damn good living from it for 33yrs [ Now semi retired ]. :).
I make just as much money being semi retired as if I was still working full time. :D
I work when I want to. If I feel like going boating that day I go !!.
My phone doesn't stop ringing from companies that need me for a day or so.

You can get trained and be on the road in 6 weeks.

I hope it all works out for you. :)

Re: Foreclosure question

Phase 1 completed.

We listed the house for sale on Thursday--Had 3 lookers on Saturday--Got 3 offers on Monday--Accepted the highest offer Today(15k over listed price)--Now it's up to the bank.

Wife is giddy with anticipation.

Keep in mind that if this is a short sale, the difference "what the bank eats" may show up as income next year. You might talk to a tax guy now and plan accordingly. Hate to have you do a 30K short sale, then get blindsided with 5K in taxes next year.......

Re: Foreclosure question--UPDATE

It seems the older we get the more we can become victums when we run short on cash. If we own our home they go after it when if we were renters they couldnt. This thread makes a strong case for buying a nice motor home and having every thing else turned into non trackable assets (such as gold coins etc). Then you can drop out of the system. No taxes for one thing. Nothing they can take either. I want to do this but as of now the wife doesnt, We are both 59 years old

That's because as a society we are taught at a young age that we are supposed to get a good, safe, secure job.
That's not the way IMO. That only leads to you working half the year for the government, and working to pay off debt. Then when we retire, our income goes down, or disappears completely.
I'll never work a "real job" again.
Living off of investments(in my case real estate) is much more friendly to your bank account as far as taxes go.
I might have 40 mortgages that are being paid off by tenants and provide income, what happens when I hit 60 or so? Those notes will be paid off and my income will skyrocket, instead of go down like the average workers.

I had a wake up call by simply reading a book, and it changed my life. It makes me sad to see our older generation bust their humps their whole lives and not have much left after taxation and debt. It doesn't have to be that way!

Very good point, skargo.

There ain't no such thing as "job security" working for a corporation. Corporations are just extensions of, and departments of, our present gov't. (And it is the mandate of the public schools to train us to seek "good secure jobs" (working at gov't corporations), it's easier to control us that way.)

It is pretty obvious that the PTB want to eliminate the middle class. It is us that give them the biggest threat to their power. This mortgage disaster we have been thru, imho, is by design. They did the same thing in 1929, too.

"Rich Dad, Poor Dad"

I didn't agree with everything he wrote, but it opened my eyes for sure.
I'm actually reading "Cashflow Quadrant" right now. Very easy reads, they should make kids in school read them!

By the way, the author of these books offers courses and mentoring programs which I recomend you do NOT do!;) Just buy his book off of Amazon used for a couple bucks, and apply your own reasoning and intelligence to it. ;)

Partially agree with you, but it is entirely possible to have a "real job" and have quite a nice retirement. It's called having discipline and not spending all of your income as you go, and never going into debt for non-appreciating assets (and then only rarely). Invest the rest. Also get a good education so that you don't get stuck having to work for a particular company. Bury the ego; keeping up with the Jones' really doesn't amount to much. Jones may be an idiot, and toys don't make you a better human being. Society tries to program us otherwise, just be aware of the game that's played on us. Somebody is always trying to sell us something, and clever marketing can make us want it without us really being aware of it.

Now why did I just order the 3yr Sharkskin cover from iboats when I already have one? :D
That's right, it was flashing, had "World's Best...." and they have a cool logo that is manly and has a vague p@#$s shape. Marketing 101.
Now I go back to my Scotch, which tastes like swill but I subliminally think that it makes me more sophisticated because the ad had a hot lady and a guy in a tux.......

Absolutely it's possible, and necessary for some people. Most people don't have what it takes to make their living solely from investments, and that's OK. We need people to do jobs in this society, and jobs are the choice for most.
Still, people should be taught about finances in school.

On that same track, I find it ironic that I make more than my accountant or any financial "adviser" I've used in the past. That should speak volumes to people!

Re: Foreclosure question--UPDATE

Seems like we've been off-topic for awhile, but as long as we're going on about money and job security, I'd like to say that one of the best things I've found for job security is doing something that you enjoy, and that makes you feel "useful." I couldn't imagine making my living off of investments. Being paid to "own" something instead of being paid to "do" something would depress me.

Edit: unnecessary

I couldn't imagine every going to work for the government(taxes) for half a year, and then working for debt. Now THAT is depressing.

Like I said, doing things the way I do isn't for everyone. I do my own property management and I bet I work far harder than MANY people who punch a clock.
Just be happy with what you do, but don't bash someone for figuring out how to be wealthy. ;)

Yes, but hopefully this one won't go "stupid" and get closed.

Their is some good info here.

If any of us have "THE WHERE WITH ALL", we can learn a few
things from what Skargo (and others) said.:)

And pull ourselves out of the pencil pushing "muck" and go
boating for the rest of lives.:D
