As much as I loved my Wellcraft 216XL Eclipse, our boating has gotten to be more of long weekends and overnighting rather than in and out day boating. So we decided that it was time to move up to a cruiser style boat.

This weekend we picked up our new to us 1992 Cruisers 2870 Rogue. Technically it's a 28 footer but that's without the bow pulpit and extended platform. With those she's 32 feet overall with a 9 feet 6 inch beam. On the trailer she stands about 12 feet high and weighs in upwards of 11k pounds.

Of course with gas prices heading for $4+ per gallon, we go and buy a boat with twin 5.7l V8's, Volvo Duo-prop drives & a 6kw generator. Brilliant!

Our old Ford F250 handled the weight nicely although an upgrade to a 1 ton might be in the cards soon. We were able to run 60-65 mph on the highway and only slowed down to 55 mph on a couple of hills. We even got better fuel "economy" than I expected. 4.9mpg instead of the 2-3 I had planned on.

Honey, we shrunk the truck.

I don't think she'll fit in the garage.

We'll be keeping her in a slip most of the time, but still plan on trips over to Lake Michigan at least once a year.

Congrats and welcome to the Cruisers Inc family!

I have to say, after owning mine for a year now, I really love how they make the boat feel roomy. I imagine yours to be similar. Get some interior shots and post them up!

Yup roscoe, those were both mine. And here's the Wellcraft to complete the collection.

Ever since I started boating I've been moving up every 4 years. 12ft-->15ft-->21ft-->32ft At this rate I'll be in a 50ft+ in 5 years.

The roominess is a big reason that we bought her. We looked at a 92 Searay 290 and the cabin felt cramped.

I don't have any good pics of mine but here is the cabin interior of a sister ship. Mine is exactly the same except with light brown carpet. And i'm thinking of pulling that out and replacing it with laminate hardwood. I just picked the boat up on Sat and already I'm coming up with new projects.

Happy boating but try to be more inconspicous while towing(60-65) If your boat is 9.6 it isn't going to matter what your pulling it with.it is illegal to tow on highways without a permit in any state. It is over 102 inches, which is federal law.My guess, and it is proably right, that your trailer needs inspected also.Weight of load cap. Take it easy.

Word of caution on that... Laminate flooring is a horrible choice for a boat. Read the fine print on any laminate, highly recommended to not install in any area that gets wet. The laminate will absorb the water like a sponge and will peel, bubble, warp, pop up, etc...

There MIGHT be water resistant/proof laminate flooring, but you won't find it at your local big box.

WoW, nice ride. :)

Looks like a lot of fun, I'm glad I haven't had twofootitis let alone tenfootitis, I'll barely afford to get out more than a few times this year.

I do keep it slow. And leave plenty of room in front of me. I'm looking into whether I can rent a 1 ton in the fall when I go to haul out. Just for the extra piece of mind.

Around here don't seem to check permits at all. Unless you are commercial. And there is no trailer inspection for recreational towers. The weight capacity of the trailer is well in excess of the weight of the boat anyway.

Thanks for the warning. I'll have to look into it more once I get around to doing the project.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you & Thank you.

I got her up to lake yesterday and put her in the slip. We didn't go anywhere what with the 40mph winds and a couple of engine issues that I need the mechanic to check for me, but we had a nice day sitting on the boat drinking a couple of cold ones.

Nice! We cram a family of five into a 24' Maxum. Four extra feet would be nice but...$$$.

Not sure if it will work in a marine application, but Home Depot and Lowes are just bringing in some vinyl products that look just like wood laminate. I got tricked by looking at some bamboo that turned out to be vinyl. Really nice. I guess not all of them are doing it but here is a link to their website Allure vinyl plank flooring. Again, don't know if it would work in a marine environment, but it's pretty interesting.

It's not so much the length as the extra beam. That makes all the difference in the world. We looked at a 26ft Wellcraft Prima with 9.5ft beam and it was way roomier than the 8.5ft beam pocket cruisers. Of course we ended up even bigger, but for under $20k we couldn't pass it up.

Thanks! The one you linked to isn't waterproof, but this Bamboo Pattern is. I'll have to see what other patterns there are, but that might just work.

OUCH! 5 mpg??? It would cost more to get to the lake than actually spending the day ON the lake. LOL And I thought my 10 mpg was painful.

HAHA guess again.... these big boats get about 1 or 2 mpg ... it'll still cost more to boat for a day on the water
