As much as I loved my Wellcraft 216XL Eclipse, our boating has gotten to be more of long weekends and overnighting rather than in and out day boating. So we decided that it was time to move up to a cruiser style boat.
This weekend we picked up our new to us 1992 Cruisers 2870 Rogue. Technically it's a 28 footer but that's without the bow pulpit and extended platform. With those she's 32 feet overall with a 9 feet 6 inch beam. On the trailer she stands about 12 feet high and weighs in upwards of 11k pounds.
Of course with gas prices heading for $4+ per gallon, we go and buy a boat with twin 5.7l V8's, Volvo Duo-prop drives & a 6kw generator. Brilliant!
Our old Ford F250 handled the weight nicely although an upgrade to a 1 ton might be in the cards soon. We were able to run 60-65 mph on the highway and only slowed down to 55 mph on a couple of hills. We even got better fuel "economy" than I expected. 4.9mpg instead of the 2-3 I had planned on.
Honey, we shrunk the truck.
I don't think she'll fit in the garage.
We'll be keeping her in a slip most of the time, but still plan on trips over to Lake Michigan at least once a year.
