Haven't forgotten the plug yet, but I have only had my boat in the water once. Just give me some time ;)

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

really never forgot it. when your boat goes in the water and stays there for 8 months, you only need to remember once.

I warm the engine on the muff, load the gear, check everything out and then install the plug.

Five miles to the ramp, unload the boat, crank it, tie it off at the end of the dock, park the truck and I am ready to go. The ramp where I launch will get you a good cussing if you are there fumbling around with your boat. :D

It (plug) never leaves the boat, just like the keys.

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

Like I said way at the top I HAVE fogotten my plug,

Put the boat in, tied her up, parked the truck, started heading thru channel to the bar, once I got out of the channel I canned it, she choughed and died I look back and there;s about 6-8 inches of water climbing up the doghouse(I/O). Motor will not restart, a tiny tin fishing boat dragged my sorry a$$ thru the channel as fast as he could, I jumped in fully clothed and luckly got her on the trailer with no damage but to my pride!

Won't happen again,

Boat is slipped and never leaves the water. :D

I haven't done it to my own boat yet, but as a child, my father & I forgot. It then became my "official" duty to make sure the plug was in every time.

The boat I have now is the 1st I've owned that uses a plug. I've had it about a year and I haven't forgotten yet. I attatch the plug to the bungee cord that holds the motor to the transom saver. There's no way I can see to forget it that way. Yeah Right! At the current time, I fall into the "Those who will" category.

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

Honestly, untill I got this boat, I NEVER had to worry about a plug. I always had the "Automatic Bailing Plug installed and so that was NEVER a part of my pre-launch routine. I have since 1996 when I got the present boat forgot the plug at least 10 times. One of those times I was quite a ways from the tailer when I noticed it. I went from Sandpoint, WA to the University of Washington Auboritum (Spelling??), I was amazed how easy I was able to slip under the walkway with my inline 6 Merc, then I saw the water and knew exactly how I was able to do that. That was a LONG trip back to the ramp.

Craig

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

Just once... first season with a boat (last summer). For some unknown reason, even though it was probably only the 3rd time launching, I remembered while still on the trailer in the water... wife had just unhooked it and I remembered. Yelled up front to hook the boat again... she's quick and cool under pressure... wound out some extra cable, just enough, and hooked it. Pulled it out of the water and let the bilge pump do the rest.

Haven't forgotten again since...

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

In high school my buddy and I were putting in his john boat. He backed me in and I went about starting the OLD 10 horse not really paying attention that water was pouring in and fast. By the time I figured it out and had him pulling me back out I had drifted off the trailer a bit and we had a bunch of water in it. Trailer goes up ramp... Boat goes off the side. What a show we put on that day. Never have forgot the plug since.

Same here, only for cleaning and winter storage. Right now, it's taped to the steering wheel along with a note to remove the tape covering the carburator. I think I'll remember it. :)

PS: I've forgotten to raise the outdrive a time or two.

And forgot the keys once but I had a spare in the cabin so I came out OK.

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

I forgot a few times on my old 16' fishing boat. On my new boat though I have a routine down..a check list of sorts. I put the plug in before the boat leaves my garage. I force myself to remember this by have a seperate set of keys that have my truck key, boat key, and house key on it...when I pull the boat out of the water, the straps go on the transom and the plug comes out and it stays with my keys till I'm ready to go the next time.

I like to do this so I can get some air down through the hull on the drive home and to dump any of the water out that may have been picked up by wet skiers and tubers getting in and out of the boat.

Re: Forgot my plug poll.

Forgot to tilt motor, left tie down straps on and broke a brake line backing in to retrieve boat once. Not all at the same time. This could be the year of the plug though. Did install auto bilge so I should hear that go on in case I do.
