Re: Free boat!

I know a guy this happened to this month. Turned out to be a bad seal at the penetration from the rear trailering eye hooks that was slowly leaking, then a bit of freeze opened it up and she sank. Nothing that he could have done differently, no real way to know that your eye hook seals were bad (newer boat too).

The guy doesn't seem to be too shaken up about it. I wonder if this was a "Project Boat" before it sank...

Re: Free boat!

not an unusual situation around here--crappy old project boat sinks and owner gives up (really, he gave up a long time ago but this seals it). Boat had no resale value before it sank, and neither does the motor if it wasn't working, because the market is flooded with them, if you'll pardon the expression.
Meanwhile that hull has no value as a workboat, which is where the old CC's end up. No parts have any value since everything is underwater except the windshield--can't be worth it.
If he pumps it out today and the new owner picks it up tomorrow, the engine is history. New owner has to arrange to grab that motor off immediately and either drop it in a tank or get to work that day. Who wants to start a project with an emergency?
He probably got that boat for his teenagers, who now have grown and gotten busy or moved, and it's been sitting around for a while. Of course, as a boat owner I hate to see it happen to anyone, but this one is far from tragic, just typical.

Wow. Lot of assumptions there.

Heck, for all we know, the boat worked perfectly and BECAUSE it sank, it's now a project boat. Why, I'm surprised some folks on here aren't claiming it's an insurance scam. LOL ;)

not the type of boat you are likely to insure. And you may be right; it ran until now, but it's not worth fixing.
