No, just busy as heck at work. More from less is our Company's motto now. I did put my name in for the spring election for Municipal Judge here. there's 3 guys running so there'll be a primary in Feb. My campaign will center around having court on Saturday mornings so people won't have to take off from work during the week. What an idea! They still haven't been able to get me behind the dumpster yet, just to slippery. Castle Rock/ Petenwell sounds good. Used to go to Camp Castle Rock in my clean cut Boy scout days. I've heard fishings good on Petenwell. Check out lake link.com for reports. It was a blast seeing everybody at the 2006 get together. Even if you can only stop by for the day it's worth it . Hope the guy from N.C. can make it. HEY, THERE'S A BEAR!!!!

My vote would go for Castle Rock/ Petenwell. Because of the location and also the quality of lake system. I know the Wisconsin River system produces some great walleyes and other toothy critters so fishing would be good. Also the lakes a big so we should be able to do some good skiing and rec. But what ever we decided I look forward to meeting all of you guys since i had to miss last years roundup.

I have no input on where to fish in Wisconsin. Hope where ever we end up has better fishing then last year. Cant really blame the spot because every lake in Minnesota was the same way that time last year. My only suggestion is this. Last year Roscoe set up the place and had us all confirm by getting reservations either through him or by calling directly. With as many ideas out there for different places to go it might be better to get all the ideas together then do a poll here on iboats. Got to love democracy.

I guess my choice would also be Petenwell.
Big enough for Pointer's boat, sheltered enough for the smaller boats if the weather kicks up, lots of water, fishing opportunities, pretty easy to get to, and looks like a nice campground.

Someone had better help us decide pretty soon, as I have to have all my vacation days requested by next week. :'(

Does anyone have a problem with Petenwell?
Or can we move forward with this?

I voted Petenwell. It's only ten miles more than Big Eau Pleine, and looks great.

Any of the above would work for me. I'm torn between the familiarity of where I've already been, or the adventure of someplace new. I've never had a boat on the Mississippi. Been on all but a few of the others.

I have no firsthand knowledge of Castle Rock or Petenwell.
Perhaps you have some insight into them that you could share.

sure,my vote was for castle rock after reading positive comments about it from pointer,and calico mentioned petenwell more treachereous.my concern was safety for people who tube or waterski/kneeboard.I have not been to either one,so this will be a first time for me.

From what I have been able to read, both Petenwell and Castle Rock, are much like Big eau Pleine, in that the further upstream you go, the more likely you will find deadheads, like going into the shallow bays. Both of these lakes are much bigger than eau Pleine. Approx 2 miles wide, compared to 1/4 mile.
From the maps I have seen, both appear to have lots of water in the 20-40' depth range.


POINTER94, are you out there?
Do you have a preference? Is Petenwell gonna work with your boat?
Its big enough water, so I would assume the launches are sufficient to handle larger boats.

Hey, sorry I have been out of touch, travel has been crazy. What I can tell you is that Castle Rock has been built up a bit. Probably about 6-7 nice bar/restauraunts on the lake. Last time there I got involved in a poker run. Castle Rock is a nice warm lake that affords swimming and skiing and tubing in comfort. There are popular beaches and sand bars that attract many boaters to anchor out for the afternoon. FYI the bars are owned by very very very friendly people. Everyone is a friend at them. Be advised these are not resorts just little privately owned places. I have been known to toss out the anchor and spend the night on the lake. As you can tell by the maps of the lake you cannot really get taken by surprise by weather or waves. Just not big enough to get far enough away from a safe harbor and nothing more than maybe 20-25 minutes from anywhere on the lake. The lake has lots of structure and fishing is very popular. It has a nice mix of smaller and midsize boats that utilize the lake. 12-25 foot would be the range.

Pentenwell will work as well, I just have had so many positive experiences on Castle Rock that it has become a yearly destination for me. I don't have the background on Pentenwell that I have on Castle Rock. But I am a get along to go along guy, I am happy to explore anywhere.
