Friggin wasps

Stupid things are building their nest here now. Anywhere and everywhere.

Spent a lot of hours working on the boat this weekend and got chased off it by a few angry wasps Saturday.

Went to the store and bought wasp killer. Spent half my time Sat afternoon working on the boat and the other half spraying down the wasps. Soaked about 5 nest under the stern and found a couple more under the console.

After finally killing most of them that made nests in my boat, it was time to get the old motor running. Started up great and sounded nice until I noticed no water from the tell-tale. Shut er down and grabbed a coat hanger. Poked into the tube and came out with yellow gunk. Fired it up again and the water pushed more gunk out and finally pumped a good stream.

I hate friggin wasps.

Used to have the same problem with dirt dobbers. Sucks!

Try covering the tail pipes, exhaust, lower units with netting (old panty hose works great) this will prevent the wasp & dirt dobbers from getting in the systems of your equipment. Tale Tell's can be closed with small pieces of rolled up paper towels, just don't forget to remove them.

We've got Yellow Jackets here......................hoards of the f'n things.................never see them like this before...................there all over the lawn................with no sign of a nest. We're in the midsts of a severe drought.................I'm not sure if that has any thing to do with it or not.

Interesting thing about wasps. They don't fly in the dark. If you find a wasp flying about in your house at night, just turn off the lights and the wasp will drop instantly to the floor. Turn on the lights, and you have a few seconds to run over and step on it before it tries to fly again.

My kids were totally amazed at how I could get a wasp to drop on the kitchen floor, turn on the light and have it fly 4 or 5 feet up then turn off the light and it drops to the floor. Repeat. They will do this until exhausted.

Funny thing, it doesn't work with bees or hornets.

Yellow Jackets nest in the ground. i learned the hard way many years ago. baseball landed on top of one. guess what when i picked it up. nearly died, in hospital 4 days.

Yellow Jackets can nest in the ground.........................but they also nest in hollow trees, between the walls of buildings, and in fallen timber as well. Additionally the are a member of the wasp family.

For yellow jackets, this is by far the best thing I have ever used. Just make sure all of them are dead before opening it up to empty them out. You will only make that mistake once if you do make it at all

Fishing along the bayous is a little tough down here, wasp like to make nest in tree branches along the bank. The don't come out when the lure gets stuck in the tree, only when the boat pulls up to retrieve the lure.

I have heard that red-heads don't get stung but did not believe it until I was in a boat with 2 others. It was my lure that got stuck in the tree, but the other two got stung. We were in a 14ft Jon boat, so I will attribute it to supreme luck or red hair, either way I had to buy 2 diners that night.

Yellow Jackets are tough to kill. Many years ago I found a hole in the yard with Yellow Jackets going in and out. I had run over a hole on the lawnmower when I was a teenager and got stung really bad. I had small boys so I wanted to get rid of them quick. I poured about a quart of gasoline down the hole, got back a safe distance and threw a lit rag at the hole. There was a loud whoomph, and a ball of fire. Right behind the fire was a cloud of very angry, very healthy yellow jackets. They hovered around that hole in cloud for a couple days. I had to go out the back door to get to my car. Then they just disappeared. I guess it worked but I wouldn't do it that way again.

I hate wasps too. They fly in our shop and we use carb cleaner to knock them down. The tough ones last about 10 seconds, but most die instantly.

DO NOT ignite the gasoline and the entire nest (group, hive, gaggle, pod, warren, litter, herd, school, quay?) dies.
I suspect there are environmental concerns with this method but I use it anyway. Ya gotta admire yellow jackets for their tenacity but ya also gotta kill em for it!

I discovered wasps in my boat, put the boat cover back on and then launched a couple bug bombs under the cover at night,,, next morning no-mo-wasps

Yellow jackets are meat eaters.If you want to get rid of them,get some parathion and mix it with ground beef(most definitely use gloves and do not lick your fingers).Put a bit of this mix in a few places safely away from your pets.The yellow jackets will come and carry the meat to their nests where the entire colony feeds on it and dies.

Try very soapy water and douse them (wasps) with it. It's not as quick as Raid but it's pretty fatal to 'em and not as harmful to you or your property. Better to do it at night too and wear your running shoes.

Something to do with liquid cohesion or something... the soap allows the water to enter the holes in their thorax, where they breath, and drowns them.

As for yellow jackests in the ground... wait until it's dark and they are all home and then empty a can of expandable foam down their front door. If the foam don't get 'em the fumes will.

Shure glad im not the only one with bee problems. I keep hearing there population is declining. YAA thay all move to my yard.

No problem with bees. They love our lavender. They also don't nest in my boat when I'm working on it.

Was out on the lake Sunday night and a couple more must have crawled out of a nest I missed. On flew away but I smacked another onto the water.

Was very disappointed that a fish didn't grab it.

While Saturday was the worst, they are still around and I'm still "armed" when I go near the boat and even when using it.

I had a wasp nest in my garage. We lived in harmony up until my air compressor kicked in and then it was war. On me. Man nothing like being under my car and getting stung. I dont think I ever moved so fast in a long time.
