Front deck

I bought a 1989 Sea Nymph to use in the waterway. It has a Mercury 25hp 2 stroke tiller steer motor, and moves right along.
I am in the process of putting a front deck on since it is rather tricky getting in and out.

I have read not to use pressure treated wood for the deck, so I am wondering what to use for the top of the deck.

I don't really want to use carpet, since it is for fishing and I think it would be tough to keep clean.

I am thinking of a painted deck with possibly some sort of no skid for traction.

Prefer to stay away from black, since it will get so hot, and I am in NC.

Is there non skid paint that is colored? I would like it to match the boat.

Or is some type of sand to put on the paint when wet?

Any suggestions?

Re: Front deck

Quite a few non skid paints out there with the grit already mixed in and a variety of colors, check Home Depot and Lowes.

There is a rubberized non skid paint called Tuffcoat marine. Available at Basspro Shops, Cabella's, and ********. I saw it on shipshape tv and it looks like good stuff. I am going to use it for the deck on my boat. It is rasonably priced too.

Does it come in assorted colors? I am trying to stay away from dark ones, because it gets so hot.

Yes, it comes in tan, olive, and gray.

It's rather pricey at $32/quart, plus you have to buy the primer too at $24 a gallon (no quarts)... AND pay shipping!

If you're just going to do a small deck this might be better suited for the job.

Re: Front deck

I used Cabelas Tuff Coat in gray on my deck, just finished this weekend. I put 3 coats on after 2 coats of epoxy and 2 coats of primer. I think I'll do one more coat. Initial impression is it's prety good stuff, seems very durable and is actually pleasant under bare feet. I threw my 5 year old in the boat do test it and she approved :)
Some lessons:
1. It does not brush on well. Use the textured roller with long strokes.
2. I gave the epoxy a rough sand before applying the primer. Even then the primer had a tendency to collect on itself (not sure the technical term). Hence the two coats of primer.
3. For 3 coats on a 17.5 foot boat I used one gallon.
4. The stuff dries fast, so work quickly when applying or you end up with a rubber mess in your paint tray.
5. Not sure how easy it is to clean or how well it will take to scrubbing. We'll see.

Here's a link to my thread with pics of the deck. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=534275&page=4

I made the frame out of 1" PVC pipe and I have primed and painted 3/4" plywood with non skid paint.
One picture is the frame in the boat and the other it is upside down to show it better.
I will see when it dries how it looks. I am going to paint a red stripe along the edge to match the boat.

ANOTHER QUESTION
I have primed and painted my deck with non skid. I am wondering of it will stay clean, since the paint is a flat finish.
Would I be wasting my time by covering the non skid with some type of sealer with silica in it, or will the paint stay fairly clean?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Front deck

Are you gonna put the plywood on top of that PVC frame?
