Frozen stainless bolts in cast aluminum??

There's six stainless bolts connecting the gear case to the exhaust housing. Three of the six are sheared. Three came out.

I've broken two easy outs. I've tried Liquid Wrench. Is there something better for corrosion between aluminum and stainless?? The bolts appear to be soft, probably not original. I've tried heating the aluminum with a propane torch and they still won't budge.

One sheared bolt still stands about 1/4" proud but vice grips just smash it.

Any ideas from someone who's been there?

Well friend, as a very experienced salt water mechanic, I can tell you that nothing will disolve that corrosion. My brother is a rocket scientist chemist (really) and I told him that if he could come up with somethng that would disolve that corrosion, I will market it and we will both become millionaires. I'm still waiting.

The only practical way of removing stuck bolts from aluminum is with heat----lots of concentrated heat----like from an acetylene torch. Heat it to just short of melting and it will come out. Propane just doesn't get it.

Hmmm,

No acetylene rig. Might be able to borrow something from the plumber next door.

This thing was held together by 5 of the six bolts when I got it. If I play my cards right, I'll still have 5 when I'm done. I'll get it hotter.

Just remember, when installing new and or used, always use anti-seize.

Hmmmmm....think so? Anti-seize is a mixture of some sort of grease and a powdered metal, copper, etc.

I always heard that this would quickly set up corrosion due to the dis-similar metals and galvanic action.

I do not use anti-seize. I coat the threads with Permatex Aviation Form-a-Gasket in the bottle.

You guys argue. I'll go with the winner.

I still have to get the darn things out first.

I've been using anti seize in my 81 55hp Suzuki, never had a problem with frozen bolts. To qualify that statement: I use the anti seize on the jet pump to exhaust housing when I change out the water pump impeller every other year... so... they don't get much of a chance to lock up.
