Can a 1998 5.0 Mercruiser be converted from a 2 barrel mercarb to a fuel injection system? If it can be is it some thing worth doing or just a waste of time and money?

I don't see why not. If your really ambitious check out "megasquirt" which is a full programmable standalone F/I system. Are there any f/i intake manifolds that will bolt right on?

This is not an option at all for a marine engine. The "Megasquirt" is just the fuel injection controller. All the other components are automotive of fthe shelf which would not want to be used in a marine engine for safety reasons.l

Re: Fuel injecton conversion

it is possible ,but it is expensive. you would be better off to just repower with a new 5.7mpi than try to get all of the parts individualy . Most any fuel injection system you see in auto publications are not USCG approved for marine applications. You would not want to blow yourself up. Most people do not realize how much fumes come from an auto engine compartment due to them being sucked from under the car by road draft. all those fumes collect in the engine compartment on a boat and could become a fire hazzard. If you are set on fuel injection look around for a boat with a froze up engine and salvage what you need and junk the rest. some times the used parts can be worth more that way. Just remember that you have to have all sensors wiring controller, and fuel pump ,fuel tank may have to be replaced also. All of this makes a good tune up sound better.

Re: Fuel injecton conversion

I now see what you guys are talking about.

My next question, which may be on topic here would be which parts are different from an automotive layout? Just curious, not looking to argue with the experts!

Thanks! - evan
