I have twin built in fuel tanks and I need to replace the 3/8 fuel lines. What do you guys recommend? After a few months of not using, I am having to clean my carbs even with a water/fuel separater.

Thanks

Re: fuel line

If your fuel lines have deteriorated and are in fact contaminating your carbs, then best to replace them with new Yamaha Marine Fuel Lines of same diameter, but maybe the fuel in your tanks has gotten old and is causing debris in carbs? Are you using a fuel stabilizer like Stabil or Seafoam to help keep fuel fresh? I'm just sayin', the fuel lines on my 1999 Yamaha are all original and I use 10% Ethanol gas all the time, and the lines have not deteriorated. Maybe draw a sample of fuel from each tank and give it visual and smell checks?
Good Luck!:)

If you are asking about what kind of material to use for the replacement lines . . . there are SAE standards for fuel lines (SAE1527) . . . so that is what you should be looking for.

Re: fuel line

The only ref I found to SAE 1527 was to a fill hose (SAE J1527. I need the feed line from the tanks to selector for the feed to the engine. I'm probably going to need approx 15' but I want to get the perfered hose for my app. I'm sure after 20 years it needs to be replaced.
Thanks

You really need "Marine Fuel Hose", not automotive hose from Autozone, Advanced Auto, etc. Your Yamaha Dealer will have it, and it'll be expensive compared to automotive hoses...but worth it. Good Luck!:)

Re: fuel line

Any reason other than their age that you're replacing your fuel lines?....maybe it's your fuel or your tanks that are the problem?

You pay for what you get! If you want good fuel line that meets the standards of todays fuels I would invest the money. As stated about the existing lines, you might want to do a little inspection by cutting open a small piece of fuel line and look for deterioration. You pay for what you get! Last year after a carb cleaning I was runinng on my portable tank, when I switched over to the main tank the motor started running poorly. Thought I had cleaned the tank out; flushed with new gas, new 10 micron filter, still pulled something into the carbs. Does't take much!
