I have a 4.3 Mercruiser in a 1997 Celebrity 180 and for some reason I cant get fuel to the fuel pump. I can hear the pump running when its supposed to but fuel is not getting too it. I can crank and crank and crank on the motor but with no fuel to the carb it wont start. I can hit the throttle and fuel never sprays out. Its a brand new fuel pump and new primed fuel filter.....

Any ideas....

There is a hole in the fuel line from the pump to the tank, or the dip tube in the tank fell off, or your out of gas.

Re: Fuel not getting to fuel pump.....

Definately not out of gas lol....

Theres some sort of underlying problem. Its been doing this for awhile now, but it would usually start after about 10-15 minutes of trying to start it, prolly 2-3 min of total actual cranking. It would start right up and run like a top all day and would start up just fine after shutting it off . But now it doesnt want to start at all... So I replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter just to rule them out even tho I didnt think it would be either of them...

Stuck closed anti-syphon valve at the gas tank.

yep

or as stated before missing or clogged pick up tube in the tank, fuel vent clogged, bad fuel line from tank to filter/pump

time to inpect from the pump back to the tank

Where is this "anti-siphon valve" and what does it do? Everything else is pretty self explanatory.

Re: Fuel not getting to fuel pump.....

anti siphon valve is located at the fuel tank right on top of the pickup tube and the fuel line will be connected directly to it

it is usually the shape of a barbed end connector

the anti siphon valve is a simple check ball valve that when working properly will not allow fuel to siphon out of the tank in the case of a fuel line rupture

to test the valve, remove it and suck gently on the barbed end and the ball valve should unseat allowing air to pass through

You may have more than just one fuel filter. I have 3 on my beast; fuel/water separator, fuel pump, and carb inlet. Change the other 2 since you're in there already.
