fuel pump help

115 johnson wont idle but will run full speed fine. could a leak in the fuel pump cause this

hello,

i suppose it could. but i would also want to know what off idle throttle response is like? smooth or stumbles or dies? or cough cough then fine?

what is mid range performance like? and when u go to WOT?

does it idle if u pump the bulb?

to test it i would want to put an inline fuel pressue guage to ck it.

but my guess is it is not the pump. carbs or something else...

What is the year or model number of your motor?

Check your motor systematically, starting with a compression check and spark test. Both tests are done with all spark plugs removed.

My 77 140 hp does the opposite, it idles fine after warm up and mid throttle ok, but full throttle, runs balls out for 30 seconds then DEAD. restarts ok.

mocha0403, i agree with ezeke, start at the beginning, compression 100psi or more, with in 10% of each other. spark should just 1/2 inch on each cylinder. if these are with in specs, i suggest carb cleaning and rebuilt kit, see sticky at top of forum. also idle speed stop screw adjustment. your motor should idle IN THE WATER and IN GEAR, at 650-750 rpms. the slower the better.
