Fuel Pump issue?

Hi

I have a 15HP 1999 2-Stroke Johnson Engine

The engine is in a bin (Tank for better word) with water. If I put the fuel tank on the floor the engine runs for about 2 - 5 mins and stalls.
If I lift tank higher than the engine, it keeps running.

Is this a fuel pump issue even though it's new
I have checked for air leaks and even replaced the fuel lines.

The pump is driven by the positive crankcase compression pulse and a slight negative pulse from crankcase.--------Perhaps there is an issue there.

Oh dear, I am not sure where to go with that.
I need to do some googling I think. I need to work out how this pulse works so I can troubleshoot it.

On a cold engine, each cylinder is 130psi, so that's OK.

how high is the bin relative to the tank ??? is this an issue in the running world.....with probably less than 2 feet between engine and tank bottom ?

If the tank is properly vented, and you have put a new brp bulb and hose assy on just rebuild the pump kit #0438616. $20

Sorry for bringing an old thread back, I wanted to tell you the problem was resolved.

For details of the problem, see post #1

I replaced the following

- Rebuilt the carb (The first time I've done this)
- Rebuilt the Fuel pump (The first time I've done this)
- Changed fuel hoses from carb to fuel tank
- I changed the primer bulb

The fix was.......

If you look on the engine block were the fuel pump screws on, there is a third whole in the middle. That whole was blocked.
