Re: Fuel pump not keeping up

Thanks for the help everyone! I had a wire landed in the wrong place on the assist solenoid.

It runs great at all RPMs. To the lake this weekend.:D

Probably not. He seems to have forgotten more than most of us will ever know. But sometimes he comes of as impatient. But there is nothing more frustrating than trying to help someone that wont listen. Like his KEY OFF post. I bet he is fun to be around though.

HA HA, that will give you the 0 volts with key off? You better thank Don and good job getting it done. B+ came from the solenoid.

I do appreciate Don S for his help, but with the key off I would sure hope we all have 0 volts to the electric fuel pump.

Had you read and understood what was happening when I explained what I wanted you to do, you would have seen that the relay was removed, and a jumper wire connected the fuel pump wires to a terminal that is always hot. The key being off, just kept the ignition from being on while the test was carried out.

I thought I explained it fairly well.

Let's do some troubleshooting, in the picture below you see your fuel pump wiring. First, remove the fuel pump relay so you can get to the socket.
1. Ignition switch OFF With your DVM, check the battery voltage (write it down) so we have a baseline number to start with.
2. With your meters black lead on the battery negative terminal, check the voltage at the 30 terminal of the socket. what is it. Should be very close to battery voltage.
3. If voltage in item 2 is ok, move the black test lead to the 86 terminal with the red test lead on the 30 terminal. Voltage should be the same as in 2.
4. Disconnect the fuel pump connector from the pump. Make a jumper wire with 2 male spade terminals on it so you can jump across the terminals of the fuel pump relay socket. With the pump disconnected, with your jumper you just made, jump across the 30 to the 87 terminal. Now, with your meter you should show the voltage you had in step 2 across the 2 terminals of the fuel pump connector. Do you?

You did and I got ahead of myself. Without you and others on this forum helping, I would not have been on the lake last weekend.

I appreciate it very much.

Don S-

I'm hoping that you are not still upset with your apprentice here. (It's been a year) I have had the problems with the chugging while trying to plane. I will go through this again and make sure that I got it right last time.

Thanks for the help that you have given in the last year and a half. :)
