Re: FUEL PUMP OUTPUT - just need to verify this with the experts

Ok, these are both new spark plugs and I hooked up the spark jump tester set at 7/16".
;

So the Lower ignition coil will make the jump, but only a couple times and it doesn't fire otherwise. The Upper ignition coil has a very strong spark and frequently jumps the gap. WHat does this mean?

What I don't understand is that when the Upper coil is jumping, the engine nearly starts from the other cylinder being plugged in, hence it must be firing in the cylinder, right? I know you keep telling me to swap the coils and I will do that next.

Are you grounding the other end of the tester to the engine or putting it back on the sparkplug cap?
Looks as though you are grounding them...
On that bottom cylinder test is your top cylinder spark plug connected?

Your top one looks to be sparking great. Not so sure about your bottom. If you plug your top cylinder back in it should start running a bit like in your first test and then you can compare them better

Ive looked again, the bottom one does look bad, its just hard to tell as it looks as though its not a consistent test between cylinders as in when you tested the top you still had the bottom hooked up but it doesnt seem as though you had the top hooked up when you tested the bottom.

When you swap the coils over keep that consistent. See if you can hook it up so you dont ground the lead but you feed it back on to the sparkplug, reduce the gap by a bit if you want.

Re: FUEL PUMP OUTPUT - just need to verify this with the experts

On both tests I had the spark tester grounded to the engine. There wasn't a good ground where the clip is shown on the video, but I ran an alligator wire to another spot for both tests. On both tests I left the other plug wire connected to to the plug. The spark plug you can see in each video is the plug wire/coil I'm testing. Sorry I had my Iphone propped to a step ladder so not the best angles...

Should Inot be leaving the plug I'm not testing connected when checking the spark on the other coil?If not, what do I do with the other wire/plug?

Thanks

I did this test earlier in the day too and had pretty much the same result. This was just me re-checking again to make sure I could repeat the results

Ok I re-read your post. You're saying I should grouńd the tester back onto the spark plug, right?

Yes try and ground it back on to sparkplug then you can watch it as the engine runs.

Gees thats not what i expected, that you had the top plug still connected while you did the bottom cylinder test as it doesnt seem to want to start at all when that top cylinders connected.

That top coils firing fine, you need to check the bottom is as it isnt in that video.
If that becomes ok then ground your plug wires and pull the starter 3 times, then pull the plugs, check that they a wet with fuel. They should both be wet with fuel.
If they are and both coils a firing you a then going to have to test timing.

To repeat That top coil is firing great

Oh yep i see, your top plug is installed while you a doing the bottom cylinder test, its weird its not kicking in and running a bit.
I think you need to check that bottom coil can fire like the top one and then test that you a getting fuel to them both when they are grounded.

Ok, so I am going to post a bunch of videos. This first one is the Upper ignition coil test again:

Here is a description of swapping the wires that run under the flywheel:

Re: FUEL PUMP OUTPUT - just need to verify this with the experts

So, here is my take on this: The lower ignition coil wasn't firing so I thought that coil was shot. BUT, once I swapped the wires that run under the flywheel, the Upper coil does not seem to fire well, and the lower coil fires pretty good.

So, does this seem to indicate that my issue is under the fly wheel? and NOT the lower ignition coil?

Yes, or the wires running to it a corrupted, breaking down.
The other thing noticable is that it still runs on the bottom cylinder when you are testing the top cylinder but doesnt run when you a testing the bottom cylinder so seems like the top cylinder is not taking any load for some reason yet the bottom is when its firing.

Have you tested with the sparks grounded that fuel is getting to both sparkplugs and making them wet, maybe for some reason the top is running dry
