Re: Funny Boat Buyer... wish I had a video...

IMHO: Mild lecture not warranted.

I titled it ''funny''; I haven't moaned or groaned. I acknowledged that, to me, it wasn't a waste of time to take a quick crack at it (selling) and that I wouldn't want to sell a boat again.

I think threads like this wind up with good info, as stories are exchanged or common themes emerge, and then other iboaters can decide whether it's worth their time 'n' effort and/or learn from the experience.

All good. Happy to take a crack at it; happy to look forward to spring.

Ayuh,.... Threads like this 1, or even worst, the Counrtybumpkin thread have all but convinced me to Junk out my current tin barge when I finally get the next hull up, 'n runnin'...

It's a nearly 40 year old tin barge, I've rebuilt, repaired, 'n had a Blast on...
I paid $2500, for it well over 12 years ago, 'n probably threw away another 10 Grand havin' my Blast...
With the price of scrap aluminum so high, I can reuse the driveline, 'n all the toys I've built into it, 'n Still get what I paid for it all those years ago...
I've thought of parkin' in on the lawn with a $3500. price tag on it, 'n lettin' it go to anybody who met what I paid for it...
But,...
I can also see myself caught up in the Bullship Countrybumpkin found his self in, when the other side of the hull blows out, like the portside did 5 or so years ago...

Ayuh,... Scrappin' it is soundin' better, 'n Better...
That way I won't haveta give it 1 more Rustoleum Overhaul either.....

Thou shalt not ever scrap a Starcraft unless seriously corroded.

To OP:

Please give me the name and address of the potential purchaser of your boat. I am pretty sure I could find a Scarab with a cracked block, and water-logged everything, and fix up the interior real nice. Since that is all he is looking for, I could make some good money. Thanks.

They're out there in great numbers. The wife and I watch 'House Hunters'. You'd be amazed how many places get turned down because they need a coat of paint!
Or because the wife didn't like the light fixtures.

well at least you didn't do the driving. But one of the risks of selling used stuff is the time wasting.
My time is quite valuable and my spare leisure time even more so, so every hour I spend with a "potential" buyer is money lost. So I seldom mess with selling stuff (even though I love the thought of flipping stuff and my No. 1 rule, whether it's a lawnmower or a house, is ALWAYS TAKE THE FIRST OFFER!

Agreed.

I had some tool wanting to buy my PWC 2 years ago, it was a 2 stroke Sea Doo GTX and he couldnt understand the "adding oil" concept... he further asked if I could tow it for him as he has never towed anything (he was driving a sequoia with a hitch receiver), was planning to get a dock slip for my PWC... and wanted to know if he could call me if he has any issues learning how to boat...

GLAD that deal never happened!
