Funny Things Happen at Marinas

We have all read the things that happen at the ramp. What are the things you have seen at a marina?

This happened yesterday....I'm at a marina in the ICW, which faces south. Strong winds brought in some scattered leaves, mostly from mangrove trees, which happens often. One of our local characters went to the shed and came back with a rake. She spent most of the day sipping wine and raking leaves out of the water.The leaves are back today, as they always will be. I'm waiting for another show!

Later in the day the husband lets their dog off the boat to do his business. The dog lets it go in the little patch of grass between the dock and the restaurant. The restaurant is full and in plain view of the happenings. Pet owners are supplied little bags to clean up after them. The husband proceeds to pick up the business with his bare hand and place it in the bag. Wipes his hand on his pants, throws the bag in the trash, then proceeds to the cockpit to drink his brew.

The wife says she can't live like this anymore, having to rake leaves and pick up after their dog.

This post has me in stitches!

The funniest thing I've ever seen is a "For Sale" sign put on a nearly new 39 foot Sea Ray with the owners cell phone number and a $15,000 must sell price tag on it when he left for vacation...I believe he ended up shutting his phone off and buying a trac phone for the rest of the trip.

Not o long ago the Lady and I were going sailing with a friend. He has a line tied between 2 pilings that stretch across the bow overhead. We use this line to aid in docking. I would untie the bow lines and use this cross line to keep the boat between the pilings, till he is ready to untie the stern. When he is ready to pull the boat back and untie the stern, I let go of the line which is overhead and fend off the pilings. He has no rubrail. I had the Lady handle the bow. :facepalm:

Since she has learned to do exactly as I say, she held the line alright. My buddy is pulling the boat back to the stern pilings while the Lady still has a hold of the overhead line. She wouldn't let go....Uh?...cauce I didn't tell her to. Into the drink she went. The second time in 6 months she listened to me and went overboard.

LMAO....I've been to Nettles Island and I can picture all of the above. I can also see the old salts in the tiki hut just slowly shaking their heads in disbelief!

HMMMM.... how about the time veritas honus and us went out in "Bacala"? I put her on the lift. Raised her up a foot or so. Went to the tiki. The tide came in and she was resting on the seawall.

I worked at Pier 66, Bahia Mar, and Harbor Towne Marina (not in that order) for 10 years back in the mid eighties through mid nineties. The stories I could tell. At Bahia Mar and Pier 66, golf carts are used by the dock attendants to get around the marina. My first week at Pier 66, the Dockmaster got into the cart and sped down "B" dock (can't remember why he was going down B, but it's unimportant). Now "B" dock ends in a large tee. We routinely put 130 footers there. So here he goes, speeding down the dock, went to put on his brakes, and he had none. He, and the golf cart, went full speed right off the end of the tee. I was standing at the fuel dock and had a perfect view.

Actually I knew better. What happened was I sat down for a brew and forgot she was still lowered. I think that was the the first time!

Took her 1 second to let go, roscoe. I was already on the dock when I saw the stretch and the look in her eyes.

I was working on the bossmans boat with my A/C guy recently. He had some banging going on and I had a garden hose in my hand. There is a lady livaboard which is very green to marina life. She hasn't got it yet. She came out of her cabin mad as hell at me. She said I spilled some bleach and it went into her foreward hatch, thru the screen, and bleach spots are on her comforter. I'm thinking dang, how could I have done that. I knew I was in trouble with a woman that has an attitude toward me anyway.

About an hour went by when I went up to the flybridge. Lo and behold...a pelican did a dive bomb flyover all over her bow. It was pelican poo, not bleach.


Even she got a laugh over it!

The pelicans have the run around here.....till I shoot off a bottle rocket!

Our infamous sailboater turned dinosaur burner was getting his holding tank pumpout Monday. Couldn't get the waste to lift to the hose. Common practice is to add water to the tank thru the deck fitting till full. This will help in breaking up some solids and aid in better suction. After what he thinks is about 60 gallins of water he proceeds to try pumping again. A little comes out.....not much.

At this point he is smelling diesel fuel. He sat there for several minutes staring at that cap. It says DIESEL.

This wasn't funny at the time. Yesterday we got all the water out of his fuel tank. He approached our tiki with a brew and an embarassing look on his face. Out marina comedian asked him if the next time he needs to take a s........nevermind ....we all laughed.

OMG. You couldn't make that crap up! Like the guy who told his wife to fill up the gas tank on the boat. She put in 30+ gallons...right thru the rod holder!!

For years I always thought that was an urban legend.....till I finally met someone that it really happened to.

I was fishing out of Casa de Campo Resort in the Dominican Republic. They have Med style docking. We tie the bow line to a mooring ball, back up to the dock, and tie the stern off. These are very tight quarters. The only thing that keeps our boats from bumping rubrail to rubrail is our big ball fenders. So close one day in some really rough weather while entering my slip, I had the rubrail from a 74' Sportfish come through my salon window...but that's another story....and not funny to me!

Anyway, after tying her up, an Italian Captain came out of his 60 something Sportfish. He swore I bumped his boat. I did, but with my fenders. Something that can't be avoided. He was convinced I "stretched" his boat several feet. He swears his boat was never that big till I hit him. He called security on me. Man, was he wired.

I don't know what he was on....but I want nothing to do with it!
