PS - For those that live out this way, they're the Raceway in Solway, TN

Good to know, I'm in West Knoxville. Good to know where the 'good' stations are.

The best gas station in my area is also a Raceway. The prices there are always lower than anyone else, sometimes by as much as 10 cents a gallon.

This morning on the way to work, at bout 0600, I past a Chevron that had diesel for 3.99. After work on the way home, it was 4.19. Wt...?? I filled up today in anticipation of the upcoming 5+ dollars per gallon.

If I could pull my boat with an electric truck I would probably do it!

I've noticed it's gone up approximately .20 a gallon in the last day here in Baltimore. One station went up .50.
I didn't notice any tankers come up the bay today, so they're still using the local supplies.

At least it's going up for a real reason this time.

Yeah, the real reason being that the news media created a panicked run on gas, which created the price hike! They're not reporting the news anymore, they're creating it.

Re: Gas price ripp off report

I understand the principle of supply and demand, but what I don't understand is: the COST (not the price) of crude coming into the refineries remains somewhat constant (although the PRICE is artificially fixed by the traders and speculators), and the refining process has a relatively stable cost. So why does the price of the refined product fluctuate so much? It doesn't cost any more for the distributors to obtain refined product - there may indeed be less of it available on the market due to weather shutdowns - but the cost of that product hasn't changed very much...other than the artificial price inflation imposed by greedy and opportunistic traders and distributors. I hope that America wakes up and really starts to conserve while moving to alternative fuels. Let the oil shieks, the speculators, the traders and the distributors choke on the oil and gas that they won't be able to sell at any price.

Before Katrina, we had hurricanes, and the refineries were not an issue then.
At least the price didn't get jecked up everytime we had a blow.

Brace yourself for this big surprise... all those stations that closed when they ran out of gas yesterday after the media created a scare, took delivery of more gas and all are re-opened. No shortage after all. You know, I wonder if a class action suit could be put together against the news media for creating this mess. It's tantamount to inciting a riot.

The media hides behind the first amendment quicker than a sissy hides behind a school teacher.

The first amendment doesn't cover inciting a riot.

Re: Gas price ripp off report

I went out last night and after going by about 6 stations with long lines or closed pumps I found one open with regular at 419. Went out today to get gas for the wifes car (its almost on E) and found 6 out of 7 near by closed and only one with gas(only high test left) for 449. Funny thing is I saw several tankers making delivers just last night so I say there is no spot shortage but just a con game to drive up prices....dont forget crude prices are at a 7 month low at a little over 100 bucks a barrel .I think the "closed ' stations arent out but just playing a game to drive up the price then they will all of a sudden be open again.....Our economic system at its worse if you ask me. Because folks will need gas to go back to work next week it will be no surprise when everyone is open late tommorow at a "new" price. I hate greed and you cant call it anything else.

At least Kentucky is investigating price gouging by the gas stations now... can't wait to see whether their atty general brings charges or not.

Re: Gas price ripp off report

Our great  governor Easley stated in the Sunday paper,"It's not gouging, it's anticipating."

What angers me is being charged more for something that's already paid for. The stations paid x for the gas they have, so then I get gouged because they'll have to pay more later. WTF, the stations are still getting their usual markup when the new gas comes. If gas drops, stations hold the higher price until everything they have is gone. Why not do that for the replacement shipments? I know I'll remember the few stations around here who held their pricing, they will get my business, even if they are higher later. The ones who jumped the prices over a dollar a gallon, just because have lost my business.

So far, I haven't seen hikes in my area - one of the stations that I usually do business with is still at $3.57, which is actually a 12 cent drop from what he was selling for just before Gustav.

It level off here as soon as it spiked...$3.60 +/-.
The highest I saw was $3.87 - he was out in left field compared to everyone else.
