Heard on the radio this morning that over the Memorial Day weekend, the Long Island Sound is usually full of power boats cutting up the waves. This year, they said barely a power boat was in sight and the vast majority of boats were sail boats. The news went on to say that there was outstanding sail boat weather this weekend that may have accounted for the influx of sail boats. Apparently most power boats were either tied up at the marina, or anchored off swimming beaches, but not under power.

At over $4.30 a gallon, marina gas and diesel prices have caused power boats to be docked or moored.

BUT NOT MY 40HP TWO CYLINDER 14FT MFG! THAT BABY WILL BE OUT ALL DAY! SMALL BOATS RULE! WOO HOO!

The fact that it was blowing a pretty steady 20 MPH with many gusts of 30 MPH may have played into that a BIT

It was a perfect day for us as we sailed 20 miles round trip out to G17 off Center Island and look at the rich peoples houses and got home in record time

I would be really happy if fuel prices caused manufacturers to revisit the small family cruisers popular in the 60's and early 70's. The 17 - 18 cuddy cabins with full dinette, sink and porta-potti, sleeps 4 (kind of) running 90hp Johnsons are economy boats compared to the options available for a family today.

I can only hope.

I was out on LIS on Monday in a very popular fishing spot, 3 other boats were there other than us, last year there was 40+.

The fuel docks were empty on the way back in when a 3-4 boat wait is the rule and the public boat launch was a little over 1/2 full.

We just might see that. It's definitely going to affect the industry. If the boat builders want to stay in business they're going to have to offer some smaller models. We may even see a push to lighter weight materials. The ones that can deliver a small boat with some big boat features will win.

I think we'll start seeing some really good deals on used boats soon too.

This keeps up and they will be paying you to take a nice late model tow vehicle & boat combo. That might look real good sitting in your driveway.

But as I said before if we would stop being a bunch of environmental wusses and start drilling, this bubble would pop like a cheap birthday ballon.

Lake Murray SC

Lake was completely full of power boats
many large fast boats
I went through 175 gal plus 80 gal in the jet skies
I am going to enjoy myself on the water not going to worry about the price I can not do anything about it anyway

Zac

Up here if you had to fuel on the water your 225 gallon day would have cost 1275 dollars

I am sorry BUT 5000 dollars a month for gas is well beyond what most can or are willing to pay

took the Chris Craft Deck Boat out in Daytona. too rough to go into the ocean, so we moored of one of the sandbars, we call disappearing islands, beautiful white beach at lower tides, gone high tides. beautiful day, ended up with probably 700 hundred boat moored or beached. fun day. some guys even brought a generator, set up a make shift stage and played music until high tide.
