Re: Gas Question.. Fact or False?

So, to sum things up here:

You can use ethanol or you can leave the boat parked and/or sell the boat.

I'll use the ethanol.

Re: Gas Question.. Fact or False?

The amount of misinformation and dock rumour in this thread is staggering. There is a mountain of research and documentation on ethanol fuels and their use in the marine environment. The facts are a lot less exciting than anything in this thread. Maybe that's why all this inaccurate hearsay is so much more popular.

Here is a site that has a lot of info in one place. Give it a look and then make a determination. http://www.fuel-testers.com/index.html

I use that site for information at times, but you need to remember, that site was developed to sell you stuff, not to just to inform you about E-10, they have an agenda just like everyone else.

BTW did you know you can deduct the amount of road tax you pay for boat or "Off road" gas? The road tax is for roads and any gas used for non road applications is not taxable. It can be quite a bit if you use a lot of pump gas for your boat. Makes me winder why marina gas is so much more since there should not be any road tax added to it. Oh yeah, it's rip off.

Re: Gas Question.. Fact or False?

My truck has the same gas in it as it did 2 months ago(huge tank, and very little use so far this year). My boat has the same gas from over a year ago (the tank is too big and the boat is too efficient!). I treat my fuel with stabil for ethanal blends, and have not had any fuel related problems with either. Both use plain ol' pump gas..not even the premium kind.

Up here the ethanol fuel (my truck is ethanol friendly) is as much if not more per litre then regular gas. The efficiency loss even makes it more user unfriendly, so I doubt it will ever be popular in Canada. Not to mention there are like 3 stations in Ontario that sell the stuff.

We could also import a butt load of ethanol from Brazil, but our congress won't allow it. Wonder why?
Not sure if this is a statement or a question. If its a question, its an easy one...its because ethanol in this country is government subsidised...at least the corn used to produce it is.

Not much there except for the normal well known "possible" effects.

I would like to find more information on how MTBE and ethanol interact together in water. It appears the states that have not yet banned MTBE have far more issues when E10 is introduced.

The problem with ethanol and F/G fuel tanks has been well known for a very long time, its a separate issue and does not affect the vast majority of boat owners. Although if you have a F/G tank its a costly fix to replace them. There shouldn't be anybody caught by surprise by this problem though, it been around for far too long.

quote Happy (ethanol) boating!

I've been using ethanol blends for about 2 decades, nothing new here. Problems.....very few.

Like others have said, its not going away any time soon, so you have a choice...learn to live with it or stay home.

Depends on the state you live in. I think less than half the states permit you to deduct the tax. NY doesn't.
