Re: Gas...

While supply and demand does have some bearing on the price of gasoline, other factors have much more effect.

On 9/11 when I went to work gasoline was around $1.19 a gallon. I'm in Michigan. When I came home that afternoon it ranged from $2 to $4 a gallon at the different stations where I lived at that time. Only one station in town did not price gouge the public.

Another time a pipeline in Texas went down and prices in my area went up just under $1 per gallon until the problem was fixed. We never had any shortages but the price went up anyway.

A little over a month ago they were saying prices were going to drop by the end of this year and last well into next year. Now prices are rising instead. There is IMO no real logic. The speculators bid up the gasoline futures in hopes of making big bucks if the prices rise.

If you remember the gasoline shortages back in the 70's the prices here in Michigan where I live only went up by about $.25 a gallon during that time. We never really had any major shortages in my area. I never waited in long lines during that time.

The King of Saudi Arabia catches a cold and prices go up. I see no logic behind gas prices. But then again I am not an economist.

Re: Gas...

Prices are going to go up. The goverment is broke. $2.99 for the cheap crap here in WPB, FL. I get fuel delivered to the boat for $3.39 gal.

I do not drive the boat as much as I used to, but when I do, I only go 5 - 8 kts and the fuel last a good while at that speed.

I remember years ago when we would drive all day long when fuel was $1.80 a gal at the marina. Those days are long gone!

I know both of you guys mean well, but these are the types of posts that send these threads into oblivion . . .

And I completely understand the temptation, as I want to comment on each and everyone of them. Please resist :)
