you can read an analog gauge at a glance just by approximate location of the pointer. you should be sweeping your gauges with your eyes about once every 10 seconds or so (just like in your car). most race car drivers/mechanics orient the gauges so all the dials point up so you can sweep the gauges in a very short time and know all is good
a digital gauge takes too long for you to focus...read...comprehend. and during that time your eyes are not in front of you. it takes about 3 seconds to focus, read and comprehend a gauge, then you need to move to the next gauge.
