What gear lube does the Force manual call for in a 1986 125 Force lower unit?

Re: Gear Lube?

I just wanted to know if they had a name brand in the manual.

Thanks.

I think the general thought is that an outboard SAE 80W-90 API GL-5 gear oil is what you want to use.

As an aside, does anyone know if there is a difference between a standard 80W-90 gear oil versus the "outboard" 80W-90 gear oil (other than the higher price)? Most standard grades list additives to prevent foaming, rust and corrosion that are important for the outboard uses.

I would think if it didnt foam it could be used in an outboard, I dont think the gear lube we use in our cars and trucks has any diffrence other than price but I'am not sure.

I was wondering that myself but didnt want to chance trying it because if it did not perform the way outboard lube and caused a break down on me out 20 miles from the coast I would just hate calling the Coast Guard for help LOL
