chum1 that's close to what I want but even so, they don't ship out of the US.
I drilled mine out by using a .250" drill to gage the center then used a .125" to drill 3 pilot holes thru the ring. Then I used the .250" to make a bigger hole then lightly tapped on the lugs and pried it; came out hard after 35 yrs in place but clean and no thread damage. I have to replace the tool because I broke it trying to use it to remove ring!
the tool runs about 90 bucks, I had my entire lower unit rebuilt for 70 bucks(just seals, not gears) do the math.
Dear Chum1 here is the result of opening my 850 LU, the shop worked on it for 2+ hrs and put two cracks in it but it didn't come out. Well it was useless like that so I took my hand grinder and carefully cut it in half.
I had to see what was going on inside - the gears, bearings etc are perfect; the only worn parts are seals and the shift cam. I have a source for another complete one.
Lets see: 3 weeks wait time + parts + your muffler bearing is shot + i didnt rip a hole in your seat = 1 month of pure frustration and no fun
or
buy the tool + learn how it ticks = happy camper with a tool to do it next time for just parts.![]()
