I was wondering if anyone knows where I could look for resin mat locally Id really not like to buy it online..local marine shops?? The only glass work I've done is with fleese and resin I'm sure its the same exact concept been researching and RESEARCHING prior to my build I don't like surprises thanks!

Check your local marina's and autobody shops and see if they will tell you where they get their supplies. Not always easy to find the types of material you will need locally. Where Specifially are you in Wisconsin?

These guys might be able to help.

Even with the shipping and handling charges you'll probably come out cheaper buying it online, there's a lot more competition online than with local shops on speciality items like this.

So the poly is sufficient enough to use on stringer replacements?? I've been searching this..I'd probably do 4*
+ layers I've read the poly is good quality but the epoxy is better is this true!?

Polyester resin and glass matt and cloth is what your boat is made out of and will be fine for anything you want to do with it.

Check the link in Woodonglass' sig for the correct way to install and layup stringers.

The resin is actually $150 plus shipping. They have to add $25 hazardous material fee to the 5 gallon pail.

Shipping from their store in Florida will be over $100 bucks. You're gunna need a minimum of 10 gallons of resin, 10 yds of CSM and 10 yds of 1708 Biaxial Cloth. R U planning on putting foam in the boat?

I just got mine from us composites. 10 yards of 1708, 25 yards of cam, 10 gallons of resin and the shipping was around $105. the place where I got it last time makes my buy the full roll, and I had sooooooo much left over, I did not want to do that again. Plus it was around the same price... even with shipping.

What material do you plan to make the stringers out of? Don't use pressure treated wood, it is too wet and resin won't penetrate or bond to it!

Plywood is the best material for stringer fabrication, stronger than dimensional lumber and no knots.

Yes, DO NOT use pressure treated wood at all. I am using dimensional wood for mine because the stringers are so short, but the center stringer will be ply. Jig is right, on taller stringers, Ply is the way to go.

This may not help you out too much, since you need a large quantity of mat and resin. But for anyone else looking for an answer on this thread, HomeDepot/Lowe's sells quarts of 3M fiberglass resin for $16 and some matting for $3. Good luck on your rebuild!

Re: get fiberglass resin locally??

they have the 3m resin at my local Lowes in gallon cans but it has wax added so it has to be done at once or sanded between layups or it wont bond well to previous work it will separate
