Getting bit by flying, little light brown bugs? What are they?

Thought I was getting a reaction from newer, cheaper laundry soap, but finally caught one about the size of a small gnat, or flea and squashed it - they leave a little teeny, almost blister like bite mark, itch, and then if you pop the bite marks, dry out - what are these little buggers? Some bites on ankles,(but how with socks on?) most on hands? And how to get rid of them? I usually leave the back sliding balcony door open for the cat.

Not sure what they are but there up north of the bridge too. I thought at first they were early hatch skeeters but they're not. Almost like chickers but they're not. I'm suspecting that they're flea's of some sort. The dogs get they're flee meds and don't seem to be bothered. Maybe I should rub some of that stuff on the back of my neck and see what happens.

Look up "biting midges" and see if they look/sound familiar.

fire ants????
They don't have wings, but are small, will latch on to you and will leave a welt that blisters up and is sore.
Some people are allergic to the bite and need to seek medical attention ASAP.
Don't know if the ants have made their way to Calif. or not, but I know they are here in Florida. Have encountered them while wearing low footwear in grass area.

I'm betting they're no see ums which are actually tiny black flys. Check out this pic:

Re: Getting bit by flying, little light brown bugs? What are they?

Suck it up ya bunch of Nancy boys!

Had a brown dog tick latch on behind my left ear Tues. before last, removed it properly by pulling on it until the skin stretched out a little and waited for it to get tired and let go. Everything was good until Friday evening and the bite area swelled up. Had to wait 'til Monday to go to the doc, got 2 big shots in the butt and a script for Doxycycline. Spent Tues. afternoon and all day Wed. in a fevered daze slipping in and out of a fever sleep.

Woke up Thurs. morning feeling a lot better but now I have a rather necrotic looking sore with a black scab on it about the size of a dime at the bite area and I'm breaking out with red bumps on my arms, face, chest, and legs.

Guess I'll go back to the doc Mon. if the red bumps get worse... I freaking love getting old!!!

When I was 23 I'd get bigger hurties than this on my nu-nu and scoff about and laugh them off... now they're damn near debilitating!!!

btw, if anyone is interested in seeing the necrotic looking sore with the black scab and lesion type tail going down my neck (did I mention earlier that it had a lesion type tail?) I'll be glad to take a pic and post it.
