Re: getting out of the hole problems

I went to the local prop shop and I talked to him about going down in pitch on a prop. He looked at my boat and he said the engine is too low and needs to be raised about an 1 or 1 1/2 inch. I told him I thought it was to high because the anti-cavitation plate was about 3 inches higher than the bottom of the boat. He said that not as big a deal as the prop being about 5 inches below the boat. He said the center of the prop should be no more than 4 inches below the boat and 3 inches for a four blade prop. He said the reason for my excessive bow rise is because the motor is too deep or too low.

Does this seem accurate?

since bass boats dont like alot of drag in the water this would probally explain his reasoning, id stick with wedges first. ive seen plenty of boats run lowers deep....get the strait egde out and make some measurements first

on the nitro...its under powered.....the max horse power rating on a 19 foot boat is 200....so the smallest you would run per the formula i 150........he got it with a 115.....really....wow....thats gotta suck for him

Re: getting out of the hole problems

Well, I raised the motor one notch and the boat did seem to get out of the hole better, but 2 people still had to sit toward the front of the boat. Even though two people had to sit at the front of the boat, they did not have to sit as far up towards the front of the boat.

I found out when I turn the boat quickly from left to right the RPMs start to rise faster and the boat gets out of the hole fairly quickly.

I might try to raise the motor another notch or I might try a jack plate.

Can you post a pic of the stern of the boat. I think if you can figure out some way to put smart tabs on, the problem will disappear.

Did you ever try it with just your one brother?

I did have just my brother drive the boat and it did get out of the hole a little bit better, but not much better.

Why is it when I turn the boat from side to side quickly the RPM's rise and I am able to get out of the hole fairly quickly?

Speculation: Maybe the pitch is too high and as you move side to side the prop ventilates, allowing it to spin up, then it grabs again and off you go? Dunno... will be interested in what the others say.

I was kinda thinking the same. I might just have to raise the motor some more or try a 13 X 15 prop.
