No It would not be a fair price. 300 to 500 would be about right. I just did one on my Volvo Duoprop myself. Bearing was 50$, and I have an alignment bar and bearing driver. Call around for a estimate.
+ 1 with Bruce, Search Volvo intermittent bell housing.1987 Volvo Pentas don't have gimbal bearings.
1987 Volvo penta 8cyclinder need to replace Gimble Bearing was estimated 2,500 labor an parts would this be a fair price
As stated first by bruceb58 and again by Fun Times, that outdrive, who's model has gone unmentioned by the OP, doesn't have a gimble bearing. So the job that all you Merc and SX style outdrive guys are talking about is wrong! depending on the model outdrive, it may be required to pull the motor to do this repair, adding a fair amount of labor, depending on what type of boat it is.
So the correct answer is "we need more info."
Welcome back to iboats, btw, 2nd post in 4 years.![]()
Question, Why the thumbs down on post # 8?1987 sunrunner 220 8cyclinder 225 hp
I don't know where you live but it seems really high to me. I had a mechanic change the gimbal, all bellows, lower shift cable and impeller in April for $519.68.
