The weather has been perfect all week, I havnt really moved outside a 50' radius of my seat on the deck, just to the fridge for another drink, and to the dock to check the traps ;)

That view is looking west from the island over the intracoastal waterway and the salt marshes. I grew up on this bay and know every inch of it, mostly under 3' except the marked channels..perfect for a flat bottom skiff ;)

Arch, thats correct....and it was and still is a work of Art.....pride of Lexington Ave.

I grew up there also and in recent years have been visiting a child hood friend who owns property on the island. Wish I could convince my wife we should vacation on LBI (we could bring the boat) instead of Ocean City, But she is a PA girl from outside Philadelphia and that's were they go. LOL She does love living near the Jersey Shore though and now considers herself a Jersey Girl who doesn't pump her own gas.

I don't personally get the big draw to Delaware and Maryland beaches... seems like its where everyone from eastern PA goes, but I grew up going to the Jersey shore and I love it there.

When I think about it, Ive never seen the Admiral pump gas, into anything lol....the closest she comes is watching me, through the reflection of her Iphone ;).....I have seen the bumper sticker alot tho!......then she points out that gas was 3 cents cheaper at the next station we pass..

Ive never been to the coast of either....I bet they have some nice inland bays...Im not an ocean beach person myself, Im good for an hour or two tops, but I can sit on a dock all day..without effort!.

We get our share of out of state visitors here too tho, last week more than 50% of the cars on the block had either NY or PA tags....

I have never actually been to Ocean City, MD but I must say I do like Ocean City, NJ which is where we go, it was way to far south being originally from north Jersey we never went past LBI.

I have lived in ocean county for more than 25 year and we are 20 minutes away from great boating in Barnegat Bay. Can't imagine living any where else as I'm a drawn to the water and could also sit on my boat all day at the dock or out on the bay.

I will always have soft spot for LBI. Spent many of day water skiing between the 2 little islands near Southwick's marina and along the bulkhead just south of Haven Beach sailing club. My friend and I actually were doing a little slalom skiing there a few weeks ago. We didn't do to bad for a couple old guys. Btw my parents sold their LBI house 30 years ago, I was 22, and I still have not forgiven them for selling my house. Lol.

Maybe I'll see you one day out in the bay.

If you ever make it south of LBI my new favorite place is strathmere ... it's the only place down there that I feel like hasn't been totally commercialized yet.. still has a small town feel. Plus you can't beat walking to breakfast every morning at uncle bills pancake house lol

Took a ride over the southern bridge in OC NJ into Stathmere a couple years ago while on vacation you are correct it is a really nice area. I could not believe how big the beach was. BTW I have been south of LBI many times we just did not do so when I was growing up, LBI was already 1.5 hrs from us.

Sorry Zool for derailing your thread. Look forward to updates on your build. Always wish I had the wood working skills and tools to take on a project like yours. My wood working was limited to rebuilding my helm seat wood structure that is completely cover in vinyl.

Update:

I picked up some wood for the outwales and clamped them on temporarily so they get used to the shape while I work on the bench seat base and clean up the old table saw. ,Im Trying to not have to steam them, but I will have to scarf them to make the full length. Ill screw them in when I plane the rear corner cap sections and plug the holes

Shiny new clamps! Looks nice over there, I could use a table saw and router. Xmas is coming. We'll see. :)

just wet them, they will dry in position.

Yea Scott, that will help, maybe even hit them with the heat gun on low too...they're not exactly where they need to be yet tho, but the general shape will help later. I have to trace out and cut/scarf 1/4 oak trips to cap the plywood sandwich edge.

Then a 1/4 outer inwale, then spacer blocks and then the inner inwale board. Ill see if just screwing and glueing the inwale pieces will work without needing the bar clamps.

It took a lot of staring and figuring but I think I have the whole picture of the boat trim worked out now.

I took the old jigs I removed and used them as a partial template on the MDO, but raised them 3 inches by marking a 3" baseline on the boards, and traced from there.

I fit one in place, and trimmed the other to the desired spacing and leveled the top.

Then I cut a piece of pvc vent pipe to the width of the base, and sliced it in half on the table saw.

I used the previously marked center line on the deck to measure and mark the opening for the tube.

.

I cut the hole a little oversized to allow for the cloth deck covering underneath. Ill reinstall it and glass over it after i tab in the base and cover the deck.
