I've been using 5200 to glue various pieces of wood to my boat for years, over all it works great. I have had a few small 1.5" x 1.5" blocks pop off, but I think that was simply because they ended up getting glued to rug-glue residue more than fiberglass. So I'm fine with that, I just re-glue to a better-cleaned surface.
So what's my question? I have some bigger blocks that I want to glue to the inner walls of my boat. These blocks are going to be mounts for the cup holders. I need a simple, clever way to hold these blocks in place while the 5200 cures. I've done many small blocks, but the one large block I did, it slid down a little bit, even after covering it with duct tape.
Picture time:
This is the block I did last year to hold the fire extinguisher. It came out ok but it was a good 1/2" to 3/4" higher when I placed it. It just slid down:
So these are my new blocks ("big" is relative (t.w.s.s.) ):
These are two of the locations where the new blocks are going. The other two are further towards the back of the boat, out of frame of the camera. But in the exact same angled wall locations:
These four new blocks have been cut and sanded to perfection, so they all fit very snugly to their own fiberglass locations. I just can't think of a way to hold them in place while the glue dries, that's not way overly complicated. There must be some trick to hold things in place, right?
