Glueing Wooden Blocks to Vertical Fiberglass

I've been using 5200 to glue various pieces of wood to my boat for years, over all it works great. I have had a few small 1.5" x 1.5" blocks pop off, but I think that was simply because they ended up getting glued to rug-glue residue more than fiberglass. So I'm fine with that, I just re-glue to a better-cleaned surface.

So what's my question? I have some bigger blocks that I want to glue to the inner walls of my boat. These blocks are going to be mounts for the cup holders. I need a simple, clever way to hold these blocks in place while the 5200 cures. I've done many small blocks, but the one large block I did, it slid down a little bit, even after covering it with duct tape.

Picture time:

This is the block I did last year to hold the fire extinguisher. It came out ok but it was a good 1/2" to 3/4" higher when I placed it. It just slid down:

So these are my new blocks ("big" is relative (t.w.s.s.) ):

These are two of the locations where the new blocks are going. The other two are further towards the back of the boat, out of frame of the camera. But in the exact same angled wall locations:

These four new blocks have been cut and sanded to perfection, so they all fit very snugly to their own fiberglass locations. I just can't think of a way to hold them in place while the glue dries, that's not way overly complicated. There must be some trick to hold things in place, right?

Rough up the glass a little where you use the 5200, it will help the bond. You can cut yourself a 2x4 or a piece of 1x4 and lay it from hull side to hull side making it the correct lenge to be wedged into the hull at the proper height, then glue up your block and set them on top of the board. Then tape them off for 24 hours with painters tape.

Hi,
I've been gluing a few wooden blocks to the inside walls of my boat to provide fixing points for my cable steering pulleys. I'm using thickened epoxy resin for the adhesive. When I did the first block I found I had the same trouble as you with the block sliding down. I tried a timber prop to hold it as chriscraft254 suggests but it wasn't very succesful. I solved the problem by using duct tape to hold the block in position till the resin set. Cut a couple of strips of the tape to an appropriate length and apply them to the face of the block before you apply the adhesive to it, then fit the block to the wall and press the tape down firmly. Worked fine for me.

Seems to have worked out pretty well. We'll see how solid they are in a few days. I forgot I already have 6 screw holes in each block, so I just pushed nails into two holes on each piece, and basically hung them off the top of a 1x4. Taped up everything.
