Re: Gonna sell it...need a price

all right here they are...lol. BAS...hilarious!

i got this one for $800. im pretty sure the motor is worth that. its a 84 fisher all aluminum with a 35hp merc. it needs a starter (already ordered) but we took it to the lake with a pull rope. ran pretty good but could use a tune up. this one ill probably keep for fishing. cant beat the aluminum for those pesky shallows.

this one is hopefully gonna be the money maker. its a 94 blazer pro-v 190 with a 150hp mariner. the guy i got it fromjust got divorced and said if he didnt sell it that she would take it. when i asked him what he wanted for it he told me his part of the divorce would cost $1400. he asked if i could give him $1500 so he could at least get drunk while i hauled it off. i told him i felt like i could oblige him on that.

youll notice the wheel on the deck there...not the spare. the front axle on the drivers side needs new bearings but luckily the spindle is in good shape. as far as the boat goes...all is good...just needs a little clean up. he thought the motor was hosed, come to find out, his son put premixed gas in it and messed up the filter. new filter on the way. check it out!

Re: Gonna sell it...need a price

Unfortunately that type of low-ball offer is the nature of the market in this economy. People see houses, cars and boats going cheap as alot of people need to sell just to survive, and they seem to expect that everything that's for sale right now is being sold by a desperate seller. Also since I have been following my local CL all summer I have watched some really great boats get marked down to a ridiculous price just to get them sold, many buyers just want something for near nothing and do not realize the value of an older restored boat. But I have also seen some really bad boats that were priced crazy high, so it can go both ways. I could see you getting $2500, and would start at $3500 so you have a little haggle room and so they feel they got a deal on it. You should always ask a little more rather than just saying your price is "FIRM", that my way or the highway attitude of the "firm price" seller offends lots of potential buyers, remember "marketing" is your biggest friend as a seller.;)

Don't get too upset and take it personal over those low offers as many times the amount offered is just all they have to spend and they are taking a chance that you might say yes... Unless of course you can tell their being a jerk, then by all means you are welcome to escort them to the end of your driveway and give them a swift kick in the rear...lol :p

i do understand this. however, this guy was talking to me like i didnt know what i had. he had money. i wouldnt get ill with someone just trying to get a deal...heck...i get some pretty frickin good deals, but this guy made me feel like i was stupid. guess he thought it was given to me and because im a young guy i didnt want an older boat.

You got a deal on that Blazer those boats are high performance rigs, and ride like a Cadillac. Some did suffer from being a little too light on the gelcoat application when they first came out.

I am so jealous right now...

Well I fortunately I do not suffer from MBS. I have absolutely no place to store multiple boats. However, if I did have MBS it would be to acquire a dedicated fishing boat like the one you just got. There are a number of shallow areas of the river I'd love to fish but wouldn't dream of taking my boat there.

i am SIKED!!! my wife hates the boat...EVEN BETTER! :D i can go fishing when i want, where i want and i can go by myself...lol.

i have wanted a dedicated fishing boat since i was a little boy. like i said...i wanted to fish out of it so bad i took a pull rope and started it like that. needless to say, that little 35 merc has some killer compression. i wish i had taken some gloves:eek: hands are killing me.

My original fishing buddy had a 1990 Blazer same size as yours and it is a great boat to fish out of, lots of room and a smooth ride... dang what a deal!

Re: Gonna sell it...need a price (updated with videos)

but its fiberglass.

ive never had any issues...fiberglass...aluminum. but ive heard some horror stories about fibergalls fishing boats. i really like the idea of speed :D but dont wanna sink her either. i fish on dam backwater and its a pretty big lake. some of the channels run as deep as 65-75 feet. however most of the slews and inlets are pretty shallow.

any comments on fiberglass vs aluminum??? i would gladly keep the blazer over the fisher. just thought the aluminum was the better fishing boat.

Well, a fiberglass hull isn't going to transmit sound through it as easily as a tinny does, so you won't spook the fish as easily while you are moving around in the boat....but that 150 Mariner might! Seriously, I'd keep the big boat all day long plus tuesday...that's the best deal I've seen anyone get yet. I'd have sold half a kidney to pull out the money I didn't have on me to make that deal happen.

That blazer is a bass boat. Heck of a shallow water fishing boat. I'd keep it over the other for fishing. Although both of them are fine boats for fishing and I'd be proud to have either one of them.

It is a buyers market right now. You can ask all day long what you think the boat is worth, but the bottom line is the market and boat prices are way down.

Nice boat. If I had a couple grand to spend I would sure think hard about it.

he offered me 1500.00 for it! i explained to him that he couldnt watch me wax it for that and asked hom to kindly leave my driveway. can you believe the nerve of some people???

Ditto Bubba1235

The nerve of that "hom" for making an offer to buy a boat. I can't imagine what he was thinking? LOL

Re: Gonna sell it...need a price (updated with videos) Finally Listed!

I guess I am sensative to it as I buy a fair number of used boats every year. The problem I sense is that very often people put far more into a boat than it will ever be worth on the market and when I offer them a fair market sum they often get upset and often down right mean. (No, your $2000 sound system does not impress me or other buyers.)

The funny thing is, I have several friends that have jumped into a project boat over the years and I try to tell them to watch their costs as they rebuild it. Care to guess how well they listen? Every one of them thought/think theirs is so special it will be worth it when they go to sell. It very rarely is. :(

Rule 1, do the homework BEFORE rebuilding a boat and know what its book value is.

You have a point to a certain extent. However most guys do not rebuild boats with the intention of selling them. So in the end the boat is worth to them what they put into it, even if it's not worth that to anyone else. Unless you yourself have rebuilt a boat and experienced the journey, you wouldn't understand.

Yes, I have had the experiance, and learned my lessons the hard way. I accept that if I invest more than its book value I am going to suffer on the sale. Goes with rebuilding old boats. ;)

Honestly, I can not remember ever being upset at anyone that made me an offer. I either accepted it or said no. Never seen it as a reason to be upset. Shrug...

Ok I see on my post I should have just quoted your second paragraph. My post was in reply to those comments only.

first of all...who said anything about a 2000 dollar stereo system?

second...i never planned on selling this boat and i definately didnt try to impress anyone. this was my first restore and the boat was give to me by my wifes father. i enjoyed the work and am very proud of what i accomplished whether the likes of you enjoy it or not.

i guess i should have went into complete detail of the whole situation instead of keeping it short.

the man told me i had a good looking old boat. i thanked him and he asked me if i was willing to sell it. i explained that i didnt really want to sell it but everything has a price. when i explained to him that i did all the work, the man told me that if the work wasnt professional that it would drop the value of the boat. he then offered me 1500 and told me that his offer was kindof steep but that it looked like i would still make money on it and that he could straighten some things up on it. i then asked him to leave and that i wasnt interested in his offer or opinion.

wow...remind me later to never complain on this site

Re: Gonna sell it...need a price (updated with videos) Finally Listed!

Actually, I think this is a very good thread to discuss. Some are going to not understand where you are coming from, and others are...it's all part of life.

To each his own. Looking at the boat market and things in general, unless you have a hot commodity that everyone is looking for, you aren't going to get top dollar or even premium dollar for it.

As far as boats go, you might be able to garner a better dollar out of a name brand that is more recognized, like Sea Ray or Glastron...there's no necessary correlation between those brands and quality per se, but it's perception and popularity that fixes a higher value on the boat. You just don't see Imps all over the place, or other well made boats, so people won't "know" how good your boat actually is, or won't be able to detatch themselves from their own preconceived notions to see the true value in any given boat...I mean, I paid $299 for my Glastron. I should have knocked off the 2, or just drug the thing home and gotten it out of the guys yard all things considered. But, I was new to boats and the fact that it was a Glastron swayed my opinion enough to shell out the cash ( btw, a very similar Imperial was sitting next to it for $199 and was probably in better shape! )

Granted, if you are coming here for sympathy because your boat got an offer much less than you thought was warranted for it, you are going to get honest opinions why the potential buyer low balled you and you may not like to hear it . I'd rather read that than a bunch of sugar coating to make me feel better about it.

There's a buyer for every boat out there if the price is right for them.

Re: Gonna sell it...need a price (updated with videos) Finally Listed!

you are so right redfury.

im not looking for sugar coating...really. i guess its one of those "had to be there" situations. i didnt grow up with boats...i grew up on the dirt track racing cars. i have bought and sold and bought and sold race cars my whole life. i know that you never get what you have in it and you always feel you have more than you do...heck...pride is worth millions...right?

originally i just wanted to sell the boat for the space and a little extra money to spruce up the bayliner. i didnt need the money and i didnt really want to get rid of it. when that guy stopped i was in one of those "super proud" moments and when he began talking down to me and acting like i had trash for a boat thats when i went on the defense.

now that i have to pay for tuition...well, i guess i have to sell it. like i said, if i get the tuition thing figured out before the boat sells...im gonna keep it.
