I am looking for a boat name. I like classic rock and classic cournty music. I like science fiction, dragons, turtles, and hippos.

Re: Good Boat Names

A great boat name relates to something you love or believe in, or some characteristic of your boat/life. The real effective ones are this way I've noticed. It took me over 2 years to decide on a boat name. Besides, it's fun to think about, & fun to bounce ideas off people.

You gotta pick your own, then it will mean somthing to you! ;):) A boat name is a lot like a tattoo, only you can change a boat name pretty easy.

"My wife took my silver turtle now I'm dragon like a slowhand blue hippo".

Your description of yourself is literally making me laugh. That is good stuff. Be happy.

I really agree with this. I saw one the other day, "Rod Father" Liked that one. I named mine, "Size Matters" which, of course, is a double entendre. Fishermen understand, women just smile. Not that women don't fish...they get it, but they still smile. ;-)

Rockin' Boat -- include an electric guitar graphic to emphasize the play on words.

Before you name it remember on thing. It's extermely bad luck to change a boats name!. Take a look at the BoatUS website, they have a list of boat names that have been registered with them. You might consider keeping it unique in both spelling and sound just incase you ever put a VHF radio in it. VHF radios have an emergency feature that transmits a unique ID and the registered boat name. Responders typically use the boat name when attempting to render assistance.

"Agamemnon"-name of the ship in Alien and/or "River horse", which is what hippopotamus translates to from the Greek. There's always "Slave 1" the name of Boba Fett's ship from Star Wars. "Nautilus" and/or "Enterprise" are also great names with rich traditions (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Star Trek). "Erasmus" was the name of the ship that the character John Blackthorne landed in Japan in the book/movie Shogun. (based on real life English sailor William Adams who became marooned on Japan and remained there in the service of Tokugawa Iyesu until his death. There is still a small village with a grave site and street named after him in Nagasaki prefecture). Staying with the Japanese/Sci-Fi theme, you could always go with "Kobayashi Maru" the name of the infamous unbeatable star fleet training scenario that Kirk beats. I'll try to think of some others with.....

My friends named mine "Own-It" Because I paid cash for it so I "Own-It". Now I have used "Own-It II" Because I sold the first one. II is centered under "Own-It".

Good point. Consider something that is easy to say, short, and easily understood for clear communication - whether it be on the radio, or just speaking with somebody. There are some interesting rituals people use for changing a boat's name to keep the sea-gods happy.

I followed my grandfather's boat naming idea and used a hybrid of my daughter's names.

Let's see, think 'o hippos is masculine in Gr., so maybe "Hippo Drone" . Maybe a pic of a hippo's head and a bee's rear and stinger. Or a pic of the original Hippodrome, or that theater in Baltimore (or Richmond or a bunch of other towns...) Nah. Like the bee thing.
