As the world we live in allows and promotes more and more liberal and unusual life styles, things get stranger and stranger.

Case in point: Thomas Beatie, who appeared on Oprah.

Holy flyin' flip!!! Social controversy at it's worst, and I want Mark to get the demerits if this goes down the tubes . . .

With that said, what, exactly what, defines this human as a man?

I'd say facial hair, but that would mean my SIL is a man!

Well, all of my SIL (Sons-in -law) have facial hair.

I wonder what it is in homo-sapien that compels him to condemn/ridicule those not like himself?

The key word is: "Oprah".

A non stop parade of those that feal-cheated. Hence, "Oprah's Big Give".

Oprah has some seriuous "guilt" issues.

Yeah... that is REALLY weird. But, I keep wondering how the child will turn out? I can't imagine the amount of baggage that will be forced on that kid.

Are we talkin about the woman who is part way through gender re-assignment to be a man, but decided to have a baby?

Re: Good God, what a crazy world we live in.

Actually, I don't watch Oprah at all. I found this little gem of information plastered on the home page of Yahoo. As if it was some monumental news worthy event.

I realize that Yahoo leans heavily to the liberal side, nothing wrong with that at all. What took me by surprise is how much air time this guy/gal is getting. And an amazingly large percentage of the media (including blogs) treat this as a loving parent story that needs to be nurtured. Like this is the best thing to happen to human kind since apes decided to walk upright.

I just wish it would be treated like what is is. A very unusual, strange, bizarre situation with a person who obviously has issues about what gender they want to be. And the doctor who went to his superiors and presented the situation should be showered in praise for suggesting that Beatie needs psychological counseling. He aslo ended his services to Beatie with the support of the hospital. BTW, the insemination clinics would not inseminate Beatie, but one did sell Beatie the "materials " so he could perform the procedure at home.

I was surprised to see the "traditional" transgendered people speak out against this practice. They feel it makes transgendered people look like they don't really know what they want and appear as freaks. I would have to agree. I was disapointed that the media at large seems to support Beaties complaints against the doctor who refused to continue to treat him and the clinics that also refused him their services. That I feel was wrong of the media.

I'm very pleased that this thread was not locked/poofed. Conversely, a few jokes aside, most comments were to the point without bashing or arguing.

Could this be a new trend in Dockside?

And that right there is the answer to JB's question . . . No other agenda, no other reason. Kids are not science experiments

It seems to me that the kids from a homosexual relationship and such would have a pretty much "normal" development if they and their parents would not be ridiculed by others. However, that is not going to change any time soon, so I do feel for the baby...
