Plumb a water hose to the powerhead inlet and push some water through it. Barrel size isn't really the issue, what matters more is whether you have the water deep enough...the lower end and most of the leg should be submerged. They won't cool as well in a barrel, but you should have some water coming out of the slits or something is way wrong. They will also sometimes run poorly in a barrel because they are breathing their own exhaust fumes, the fumes get blown away on the lake.

Re: Goodyear SeaBee

Hey everybody, still working on the "hot" Seabee.
Powerhead was off, appeared to be clear (head scratchin!!). Everything else looks clear: leg, impeller housing, manifold ect...So I reassembled again.
Ran again in a bigger barrel, same result motor runs hot. So this morning removed leg, plumbed garden hose to water tube(100 percent connection). Ran water and compressed air alternately for over an hour and only got a little bit of sand out. Ran with leg off plumbed straight to the garden hose and it still runs hot. So I gotta believe the powerhead is still plugged? So has anyone had one of these powerheads apart? I am getting water into the powerhead, I know because when flushing it was ice cold, could I have a partial blockage to only part of the powerhead. Come on some of you guys that have rebuilt these help me out please. Thanks in advance for your help. Larry

Ouch...sounds like you need to pull the waterjackets/covers and that may mean a sheared bolt or three, especially if there's sand/corrosion in the jackets. Don't mean to be a wet blanket, but been there, done that and did the cussin.' Use heat and an impact driver on the bolts. If it was ever run in salt/brackish water, I'd be tempted to pull the plug and look for another similar motor (Sea King, Sea Bee, Atlas Royal) and keep that one for a parts horse. Keep an eye on the free classifieds at www.aomci.org I think MI has a pretty active chapter...summer swap meets are coming up.

Hi Larry - Is it possible to "snake" something flexible like a wire up the port & starboard water sleeves of the power head to try and dislodge any sand/debris that may be up there? If so, maybe you can snake it for a while, then use the compressed air and water to flush out any loosened material. Then, as the back of my shampoo bottle says, "repeat as needed":D.

Hope this helps - Bob
