picked up a project Starcraft islander. it has a chevy based inline 6 cylinder( the previous owner says)
it has been sitting over 20 years..
what steps should i take to TRY and see if i can get it running with out rebuilding it..
I realize Ill beed to pull the plugs and squirt in some Kroil and let it sit for a logn time....
but since this is my first inboard,...i am not sure what...IN the I/O foot( or outdrive) ( or what ever the in between parts are called) could lock me up as well.
do i need to pull the outdrive before i try and start this motor???
I figure if the crank and rod bearing got really rusty....it wont budge....
what direction is the rotation??? look at the motor from the front
maybe I can pop the head and try and turn it with a breaker bar after soaking...
but is there anything else that could be a gremlin for me???
can anyone verify this is a 165 hp 250 ci mercruiser??
is it in fact based on a chevy motor?
it is in a ( i think ) 1969 starcraft...but havent verified yet....there is no HI
only a serial #
thanks
