I finally got the flywheel off and started cussing myself. I pulled it off because I thought the coils needed replacing 'cause it was to hard to start-but they looked new! I didn't remember them being replaced several years ago when I took it to a shop and all I remembered the guy telling me is he rebuilt the carb and adjusted the points. I was thinking all that trouble and expense (bought a harmonic balancer puller, strap wrench, and torque wrench) for nothing! No, I haven't checked the compression or spark (plugs looked to be buring right). Well, I checked the point gap and they had 15-16 thou. gap. Readjusted to 20 thou. and now it starts with one or two pulls!!! From what I understood form my manual there is not what I would call a "lock-down" screw to hold the adjustment - is that right? I still need to decarb but anytime I'm on the water I've got to fish. Anyway, I was going to do a post right after I pulled the flywheel titled "IF IT AIN'T BROKE DON'T FIX IT" but as it turned out it was broke (point adj). Thanks to all the informative posts from you guys - you know who you are.
