My trailer has the Posilube type setup with the zerk on the end of the spindle and the open cap with the little rubber disk shaped plug. I've had the rig for two years. Recently I did some brake work and after replacing the wheels I regreased with a gun until the grease started oozing out around the front of the hub. My understanding is this is the proper procedure for this configuration. After towing it a little over an hour I noticed the plug was puckered outward and grease had oozed out of it. It was very clearly coming from the plug itself, not around it, so I guess I need to replace the $2.98 plugs since they obviously have cracks in them. I felt the hubs and they weren't any warmer than I would expect after that tow, so I just pushed on the plugs and the pressure abated as they squirted grease like a giant zit. The same thing happened when we returned home. So here's the question. Is it just excess grease escaping? I'd just chalk it up to that and watch for it to stop within the next couple of tows, but it didn't do this last time I regreased (last summer). Maybe I just didn't put in as much grease then?
