Re: Great article on old time favorite lure

My favorite old time lure is the Wordens Roostertail, I've caught more fish off of them than any other kind of lure.

You can buy 2 Roostertails made in the U.S.A for the price of one Mepps spinner made in France.

They compete with metallic spoons, JB. You can go into any WalMart and get a dozen spoons for a buck. They may not catch any fish, but there is no doubt they are available. Someone buys them.

They are by no means the only domestic (and effective) lure available.

We used to catch lots of Sea-Run cuttthrout trout in Puget Sound when I was a kid...The go to lure, when all else failed, was always the **** nite.

I have tried those imported spoons, PW2. They are cheap. They do suck.

They may "dominate the market" in some locales, but nowhere I have fished. I have not fished the PNW.

The good imports. . .Rapala, Mepps, etc.. . .are not cheap.

I don't come to this section very often but do look in from time to time.

The most productive lure I've found has to be the original Floating Rapala. I have caught everything from small perch and gills to large bass, northern and walleye on them. Even got a painted turtle once! Personally I just do not fish jigs enough to make the same claim. Though I would bet that jigs out fish all other lures combined under any condition.
