I appreciate all the kind words, advice, and support. An accident report has been submitted. Right now, I'm waiting to hear back on some quotes here locally, and will "play it by ear" from there. I'll keep you guys posted as I hear more.

Seems to me that you should proceed first, and worry about his reaction second. Gotta get it fixed. Insurance or otherwise. Have you called the guy? That's where I'd start. Have him meet you at the dealer/shop. If he won't and the estimate is more than your deductible, then this is simple. File a claim.

What lake? Just curious.

Lake Perris :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:
Shoulda known better, this place has been down hill for a LONG time (I can give you a half dozen instances that would make you avoid this place at all costs) I don't mean the lake so much, I mean the camping, and the "beach" scene

I used to boat there a lot, and oddly enough . . . I was there on Saturday, and I haven't been in 20 years. Beautiful day actually, and the lake was very quiet. Was surprised. I was looking at it to consider possibly messing with a Catamaran. It was so nice I rented a little tinny for $30 and had a buzz around the lake. If you can relax a little the surroundings are quite pretty, but I know of the other side as well.

The launch ramp scene has always been amusing there. Sorry you got the bad end of it :(

The wife was/is as upset as I was at the whole incident, but on the up side.. my wife had her pole in the water for 2 minutes before landing a beautiful spotted bass, going to have some fish for dinner tonight. :)

Not sure about Cali, but in NY, your homeowners insurance covers the boat. Give it a look

many homeowner's policies cover small boats that they define as not boats (example: no motor, under 15' and under 50 HP) but you have to read your own policy carefully. I doubt it's a state law but some states are very specific about policies.

Also, in Virginia, you do not have to have boat liability insurance, as far as I know.

Trust me, I was pretty irate. I'm still really upset, but life is too short to spend my energy being upset and continuing to get myself worked up. I let this guy have a piece of my mind when it happened, however.. we didn't exchange any words since the guy doesn't speak one word of english, oh..except to say to the LEO "i didn't do that! that wasn't me!" when the damage was pointed out to him.

I've gotten a couple of quotes so far, and should hear back today on 2-3 more quotes. The first guy asked me to send him a picture taken with my phone, then proceeds to call me back and quote me $2000. No thanks.
Another shop has quoted me $1000, and I know this particular place would do an excellent job, and can have my rig ready by Memorial.
Once I hear more back today, I'll take it from there.. If the guy doesn't wanna pay for it, then perhaps insurance is in order.
