I am probably going to put these locks on the hatches of the boat I am currently working on.

They come in the 1 1/8 size. The hatch lids, at this point, are going to be 1 1/8 inches thick, and the flange underneath is going to be another 1/8 inch. Does the 1 1/8 inch mean it will go through 1 1/8 inch of lid, and then the flange, or do I need to redesign my hatch lids so they will be thinner? (they haven't yet been made)

Re: hatch locks

i have used this type lock on many projects, cabinets, liquor cases, the thickness is the depth of the wood. do not drill the doors till you get the lock, and double check, you can always drill out the back of the door, with a 1 1/2 inch spade bit, to accomodate the lock, and chisel a notch for the keeper. you are getting a lot of weight using 1 1/8 material.

Re: hatch locks

Not really gaining that much weight, as it is not wood. I am using .125 (1/8 inch) aluminum sheet folded over a frame of 1 inch aluminum square tubing, so the thickness will give it rigidity, but not much weight.

Re: hatch locks

also notice in the picture it comes with 2 lock levers, one is straight, the other is offset, it can be turned either way to make the lock secure. you just remove the screw on the bottom of the lock.
