Haulover (and other inlet) boat question.

I've been watching some of the youtube videos of boats going through Haulover and other inlets. The types of boats seem to be either CC fishing boats, large (40+) cruisers and yachts, and quite a few small open-bow speed boats.

I rarely see small 25 to 30 ft. express cruisers going thru these inlets. Is there some reason those types of boats are not suited to traveling out to open water? As the owner of a Sea Ray 270, I'm curious why I seldom see boats of that size in the videos. It seems like they would be capable of taking their owners out for some ocean fishing, and would be better suited to passing the inlets than many of the small trailerables.

Any ideas?

look at a different inlet and you will get a different mix of boats. Also, get off youtube where someone else filtered what they looked at when taking the video and look for yourself to remove the youtube bias

it has nothing to do with capability or quality. if it did, no one would own an iPhone. think about it. the newest iphone is about 8 years behind in technology. the iPhone is horrible at making calls. people buy them because other people buy them not because anyone did any comparison shopping. and once you own one, all your apps and accessories you bought are limited to iphone only so most people grudgingly buy another

people tend to buy what they see around them, so if guy 1 and guy 2 both have x-brand of boat, guy 3 comes along, doesnt do any comparison, he buys x-brand as well. then the hairy-chested, gold-chain wearing dealer says, must be popular, pre-orders a bunch and has to cut prices to liquidate inventory so guy 4 and guy 5 buy same x-brand boat, however at a reduced rate.

come up here to the tampa area and you will find a ton of express cruisers like your 270, regals, Carvers, Cruisers, etc, a few of the larger cruisers, a bunch of small, medium, and large dual council boats, etc, a bunch of flats boats and the popular hurricane deck boat with an occasional pontoon thrown in

go north to Stuart FL from Miami and you will find a bunch of sport fishing boats - Albermarle, Hatteras, Viking, etc. larger sea rays, etc

Hit Lauderdale and you will hit the largest yacht and superyacht marine center on the east coast with small boats being 112' and the big boats in the 400' range

I'm sorry your previous phones were so bad that you had to switch brands to get a better one, and your choices were limited to non iPhones, because your apps and accessories would not work with an iPhone. :)

Pullin - Don't forget the videos on Youtube are of those boats the cinematographer expected to sink. The video of boats cruising through with capable Captains and crew ended up on the cutting room floor, no matter if the visual was from an iPhone, Android, Super 8 or an IMAX camera.

One thing I noticed on those vids...doesn't seem to be a no wake zone. On Lake Erie if you came blasting into the channel you'll be getting a ticket.

The volume of water moving thru an inlet on a tide change is enormous. Currents can exceed 25-30 miles per hour at peak flow. Your well above no wakes speeds just to make head way.

I don't know how it happened but I've gotten sucked into those Haulover videos too. It just depends on which of the many videos you watch. Some seem to be mostly center consoles, some are bowriders large and small that seem to do the worst, and some may focus on the large yachts or maybe a poker run vid with all off shore style boats or the ones that focus on PWC's and some mix them all up. I've seen plenty of express cruisers as well.
