Re: Have to tell the wife eventually!!

Need to make something clear, I would never touch money that was meant for my family. For 20 years I've had what my wife calls my "toy fund". The toy fund comes from doing side jobs (build a deck, install a floor, etc. ). Two-thirds of any extra I make goes in savings, one-third goes in the "toy fund". Over the years I've bought a jeep, dirt bikes, street bike, guns, that sort of thing. My wife doesn't know the money is gone because she doesn't even look at the "toy fund". I would never go behind her back on anything. Kids will get senior pictures, we'll get a new couch, my family comes first. This post is meant to be fun. I just have to figure out how to tell her I bought a money pit. Not only is the toy fund going to be gone, but I'll probably have to borrow money from her!!! Lol! I've got a great wife. She'll tell me what a dumb a!$ I am for waisting my money on a boat and then she'll be as excited as I am to take it out!

Trying to look at the bright side, this might be an easier issue to get past with your wife than the one a certain pro golfer is dealing with currently. I don't keep anything from my lovely wife and she is mostly comfortable with whatever I do because she knows I will use good judgement.

99% of us got that...sorry you felt the need to defend yourself.

...but still, my offer to take over the boat at the small price of easing your burden is still open.

Hey, I'm just that kind of guy. Nope, no need to thank me, just say where and when to pick it up.

Paul....I'm not upset and I don't feel like I need to defend myself. I think it's hilarious, yes she's going to kick my a$1, but she'll think I'm an idiot and she expects that! I just feel bad for some people that get so uptight about things. However, it is nice to know that someone is willing to "ease my burden". There are some good guys out there! I appreciate the offer! :D

Bucks45 just man up and own it my friend!!! Don't put it off and tell her thank you for the most beautimous Christmas present you've ever gotten!!!

Preferably do this when you take her out to dinner or that play/movie she's been wanting to go to. You're gonna owe her and the sooner you negotiate the payments the less pain on your part.

I feel very fortunate. The wife wanted the boat as much as I did. Enough to drive with me 3 1/2 hours each way, north, in winter just to look at it. Believe me, that's out of character.
Buck, in your case, we are changing the definition of a boat:
A boat is just a space in the barn that you'll have to keep throwing jewellery out of.

Re: Have to tell the wife eventually!!

I finally made my mind up last fall to buy the magnum fish and ski I had located 3 weeks earlier, after running it, kicking the tires, reading up on the 70 HP Evinrude. I towed it to the shop and showed my boss first, discussed the possibilities and so fourth. I said well, I guess I better go home, face the wrath, get it over with. I towed it home, and backed it up in the back yard then walked around the house and went in the front door. When my Russian bride of 5 years got off of the phone, I said" I'v got a surprise for ya baby" She said oh, another watermelon ? I said no, it's better than a watermelon, go look. I followed her out the back door and when she saw it, she was thrilled, turned around and hugged me. She was pretty happy when I brought that boat home.
I wish she was that happy when I buy a shotgun or a rifle, but I am still pretty fortunate. Good luck with your dilemma.

Buy her a shotgun or a rifle..take her shooting... she may enjoy that sport as well if you include her...I just gave away an old Crossman 760 Pellet/BB rifle with a scope on it to a lady friend of mine...she loves it. She has killed quite a few old computer monitors she had with it,...the older ones...big cathode tubes...just for fun....lol... ( spread a large tarp under it ...makes clean-up easier)
Glad to hear it worked out for you with the boat !.... :D

Tell her its a friends boat, and he said "If you keep it in your barn for me this winter, you can use it whenever you want. But what you should realy do is store your wife in the barn and keep the boat in the house! Thats what I do cause I hate my wife! Just kidding I dont keep my boat in the house!

Re: Have to tell the wife eventually!!

just before your birthday you have a buddy over and you go to the head.... while you are away he tells her that he know a real idiot who will sell the boat of your dreams for $500..... he cinvinces her to give him the money to surprise you.. he brings the boat over and you two have gas and beer money for the first ride.

wow now that is a ballsy move!! that's like a captain moment! haha

I love it!!! I dont have the guts though! and I would for sure get caught. Murphys law was created after me. (at least it feels that way sometimes! haha)

I am young, and instead, I just tell the old lady we are doing it. she rolled her eyes and sighed. but man after our first day on the water, she said it was one of my better ideas in the past few years! haha

Problem solved...

Just wait until she does something like backing the car into fire hydrant or dropping her wedding ring down the sink drain. When she breaks the bad news to you, just say...

"That's OK honey, BTW I bought a boat 3 months ago"

Re: Have to tell the wife eventually!!

Update - Took the wife to dinner tonight. She was in a pretty good mood so I thought I would bring up the boat subject. I got about 1/2 a sentence in when she asked me how much I paid for the boat!!!!!! Seems the farmer that leases our farm saw me putting the boat in the barn, runs in to my wife, and comments on how much he likes it. My wife goes to the farm, looks in the barn, turns out she liked it too! She was waiting on me to say something. She started laughing and told me she knew I would get one. She did tell me that it was my Christmas and Birthday present for the next 10 years. I told her that I had been thinking of naming the boat "Suprise"! She didn't think that was as funny. I've got a great wife!

Thanx Stachi
I have tried to involve her in the hunting, target shooting, reloading aspects of shooting but with no luck. She will happily clean and cook anything I bag and drag home. She does love fishing. Thats why she was so happy about the boat.
