Re: Hello - Neub Question - Need a boat manufacturer recommendation

I agree with many comments about lack of experience. The OP's analogies are without warrant (flying, driving road rigs).

Flying is inherently safe (It is. Sorry. If you really fly, and you immerse yourself in the aerodynamics and engineering of flight, you will know this); Boating is inherently dangerous. I learned boating over a life time, and I am 44, and I have learned so many other things faster.

OP, you are ignoring your own advice anyway. You acknowledge SOME learning curve, albeit too short, and yet your first learnings will be on too much boat. Year one: Learn the ropes on a smaller vessel, and make all your mistakes to be little ones.

Yours is not the only life you are risking.

Relevant info:

Size: You can live for a couple of weeks on something over 32', given it has the right layout.

Trailering: I think you are convincing yourself something is practical, when it is not, if you don't back down on size

I'm beginning to wander if we're getting punked here. The wish list was all inclusive, the boat has been getting bigger (30, 40, 50), doesn't know what I/O means, new great skills each post, undoable trailering ideas.

Sorry, but this seems to get more crazy as we go along.

Hmm bubble popper(I know- the cold hard truth does often pop a lot of bubbles)! lmao ok ok so I was trying to avoid a new truck.. but seriously a Dodge 3500 should be able to handle a 48' boat correct? And I do agree with you on the permits (I have a commercial drivers license so I know about obtaining "Oversize" permits and what not). I want to clarify when I say live aboard I am talking for short trips of 1-2 wks max. Last time I was at a boat show was about 7yrs ago around the Pensacola area... they had more Luxurious boats then what I am looking for...and all the speed I could need but also a lot of lux I did not need, over all it was good time spent looking. I admit I do have limited knowledge but I am also very competent at things I decide to take on. I do plan on hiring a fully qualified boat captain to show me the ropes and plan on spending a lot of time under instruction before I venture out on my own. I mean after all if I am willing to throw down so much money on a boat I am just as willing to throw down a lot of money on instruction. When I learned to drive Big Rigs I had plenty of instruction, when I learned to fly aircraft I had plenty of instruction so I am willing to put money down that learning a large boat with a good instructor won't be all that hard. (Any takers by the way who would wanna instruct?) As far as to what river, I live near the TN river about 30 mins away, my house is on a truck route as well so if I did so happen to HAVE to have a Big Rig I can make it happen... (tons of logging trucks go by quite often..)

Ok man. To put it simply, your wants and needs really don't add up. If you keep looking there are surely some boats out there with most the needs that you have, but probably not all the wants. To find a boat that size that will also be great for shallow water, is to say the least, a challenge. To find a boat of that size without extra immenities is also a challenge.

If your really serious and interested in a nice boat, well equiped that you could live on for two weeks at a time and also dive from, here is a good boat to start with. http://www.thehulltruth.com/boats-s...-im-looking-move-down-2001-tiara-38-open.html

Its well equipped and if you buy it and have it delivered to you, I will come down for 2 weeks at $3500.00 a week and show you how to operate the boat and get you comfortable with all the systems on board.;)

Yes, I'm waiting for Ashton Kutcher to chime in at any time . . .:)

BTW - A college buddy of mine had a Tiara 38 Open for a while. . . nice boat.

Wow! I'm no expert but I think ALL the advice was "good" w a little expected sarcasm. I also wonder how well a Dodge 3500 would tow a 48' boat w said amentities w/o alot of trouble and or constant "adventure" w any skilled driver, esp in a panic stop (rain). But again i'm no expert. I am sure of one thing, you cannot find better boating or boat buying advice than right here, It's ofcourse up to you, what you do w it:confused:<-me.

He'll lurk; it's an inherent behavioral trait of anyone even remotely successful: He wants to know what we'll say about him.

So, that Fountain cruiser, which is completely untowable and not useful in shallow water, and that no one would want to drag a fish into: What are 'surface drives' that make them different than inboards?

The "expected sarcasm" comes frequently when folks ask for advice on any forum, and then seem to debate it when they have stated they have never (fill in the blank) or have any experience w the asked for advice. I've seen alot more than sarcasm on other not so moderated or friendly forums. Some have no rules of conduct whatsoever.

Ever watched "swamp people" on the history channel? Those funny looking outboards that many of the boats have are surface drives.

I looked around and got edumacated. A surface drive exits the transom darn near straight and the props run at/above/near the surface when on plane. Bigazz cruisers that get on plane tend to run 'em.

Inboards: prop is under the boat; transom is intact.

Bigazz cruisers
Make that mostly Bigazz go-fasts. If you click the Fountain link in one of the early OP posts there are three of them. The idea is that the prop "surfaces" and literall y runs half out of the water. Somehow that is faster as there is less stuff in the wawa. What I don't really understand is how that you also only get half the "push" right?

W his attitude towards well meaning advice, and scoffing of advice he seemed to find demeaning/insulting, I can only imagine we may hear tales of this guy on another famous forum on this site in the future. Please don't be "that guy". But I fear it may be inevitable like Tred Barta says "........My way, the hard way":D

I've already started searching for him elsewhere . . . I kinda went through the thread again today trying to figure out how messed up he was. Starting out with the list, and the speed requirement, and efficiency and then, with a truck background, assuming that towing a 48 footer with a pickup was cake . . . uhhhh . . . nope.

I found the boat manufacturer he's looking for. The company is called Abracadabra, based out of Fantasy Island.:D They also manufacture unbelievable tow vehicles that can pull mountains up mountains.

Oh certainly...

Anyhoo... I guess prop speed is higher when part of the prop 'surfaces', and I suppose the higher prop speed returns more total thrust from the wetted prop portions than a prop that is submerged with all surfaces providing thrust but running slower because of increased resistance.

It's all about the laws of gravitivity and polarity and stuff like that... or sumptin'. :D
