Help gimble brg. I.D. please?

Can anyone tell me if this is bearing and race or just bearing? I want the set together. Thankyou

and the carrier... which is the complete unit you need to fit.

If you flip it over,... You'll see the 2 scollops where the Bearing can be removed from the outer carrier.......

Mercruiser originally installed them so the scallops were facing back (to the blunt end).. You could flick the bearing out... Too many people were just replacing the bearing and not the carrier... A NO NO for those bearings... So now all carriers are installed with the scallops facing forward (to the pointy end). And that's how I do it and how I would recommend you do it....

yep. thats how i did it too. especially since ya can get the brg. only from ms.com... and they even tell ya how to do it..... like achis says, don't do it.... dons posted up a service bullitin about it at one time...... here it is...

the carrier and brg. are a matched set...... oh, i got to do my gimble brg. twice because of ms.com + the fact that i had the cutouts faceing rear so i could get the brg. out..... i now have a oem gimble brg. + the cutouts face fwd......

The "matched set" is bull. The very early manuals state if the bearing has not spun in the race, the bearing can be replaced as a single unit.Plus the merc bearing had a number "BSxxxxxx." A'blue print special" run of this bearing available only to mercruiser.the patent rights probably expired and other manufacturers started producing the bearing and race. it is a good idea to replace the unit due to the tight tolerance of it and not have a noise issue.
