Re: HELP!! Honda 225 Saltwater Entering via Exhaust?

It only takes about 60 seconds of ride time with my Evinrude E-tec 225 H.O. to completely forget about how bad I got taken by Honda's worthless 225 four-stroke. Summersalt.

Amen to the E-tec! Quiet, fuel efficient, power, and a much better designed exhaust system and an advanced diagnostics system that really tells you if something is wrong.

Happy new year to all, I hope everyone has had a great boating year. I just wanted to mention how strange it is to not see any of the 200 or 225 Honda's anymore. Has consumer dissatisfaction put them to rest? I hope so. Sumrsalt..

Geeze, here on the west coast honda 225's are everywhere!

We have following seas on every inbound bar crossing. I have to say, the issues you guys are describing really do sound INSTALLATION related. Honda's horn fix is probably a band-aid for poorly performed installations. My dealer here knows about the water ingestion issue and said immediately that a poorly hung motor would have ANY outboard eating sea water.

Soo, quite your bitching. I, for one, an tired of hearing your whinning. You had crappy dealer. Be happy with your new motors and shut up.

Those of us AND THE US COAST GUARD, will be VERY happy owning our correctly hung fantastic Honda 225's!

Have a great New Year. :)

Hello all, Just wanted to keep this fresh, inspite of all the negative feedback. Looks like the fix really has not done a thing. The exhaust on the 225 is still ingesting water, customers are losing their shirts, and Honda keeps on selling them. I learned my lesson, Sumrsalt.

In Honda's defence, there was a bulletin circulated to all dealers to say warranty would be voided if the exhaust idle port was less the 6 inches above the water line.In the earlier installations a lot of the boats they were fitted to did not have the floatation to carry the weight and this problem occurred. You must fix this problem after the engine rebuild or you will go through the same thing again.

I have a 2008 Honda 225 with the same issues. According to my dealer water entered via the exhaust. This is not covered by the so called Honda 5 year trouble warranty. I had 160 hours at the time. My o2 sensors are now out causing an alarm at low rpm. I think Honda has a design issue and are not willing to back the 5 year warranty. Good luck getting any help from Honda. To date I have had none......lunkeract. This will be last Honda.....purchase.
