Help identifying a Tilt & Trim unit

Hi,

Here's my T&T components off a force 120 (1992 most likely). It will raise the outboard barely but won't bring it down at all unless I apply immense pressure on it while I trim it down (T&T motor will spin though).

A few questions if you will:
  1. The part where the hydraulic pump sits on have seen better days, can you please advise where I might find one?
  2. Same question about a kit of seals and o-rings. I'm having trouble uniquely identifying these components. I've looked here and here but it doesn't seem to match my unit
  3. I'm most likely going to try and find a local shop to rebuild the electric motor (although it's working). Should I not bother and look online for a new one instead? Since I can't identify the exact part number I'm not sure about prices
  4. Last question - I assume the pump itself it OK but the combination of the electric motor and the sealing issues causes the trim not to take the outboard down. Can you guys please advise if my initial diagnosis is in the right direction?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Regards,
Yarin.

This is the Mercury style pump and motor, look for used. You can get the motor but not the pump. If you get a new motor, make sure that it comes with the shaft. DB Electric has the motor and it comes with three different shaft lengths. Inside the pump is some springs and balls. I recently helped a friend and found out that no one is making the pump itself.

On my friends the tilt/trim was grunting, jerking, sounded horrible and sometimes wouldn't work at all. We replaced the relays, did not help! Took it apart like you have done. Replaced the motor and it took care of the whole problem.

You might end up with cleaning up the base and repainting it. I did find out that this type of pump seldom goes out, they are hardy. The Chrysler style are more fragile, you can find that type but they are a Chinese knock off and don't last. Good luck.

Thank you for the input. I assumed the same that the pump is most likely ok - however the bottom part of the assembly where it sits on is completely corroded and is not sealed. I will have to get a new one for sure - you think i'll only be able to find one by looking for a pump or not necessarily?

The bottom piece is a "manifold" Part number 823085. You might call around at Mercury dealers? The pump itself is PN 811702. Myself, I would look around for a parts motor. 1990-1995 half use the Chrysler type T@T. If you do find a parts motor, make sure that it has your style of tilt.

By the way - my outboard T&T has two hydraulic pistons and one small ram in the middle. Similarly to the motor and pump components, it seems like it doesn't match what I see in diagrams for this outboard - would it be easier to try and replace the entire thing to match the outboard I have or no real benefit here?

This is the only picture i have from a video i took of the T&T trying to operate. I can't take a better as the T&T is now on my table :)

You can see two pistons and down in the middle the single ram

It is the newer type tilt/trim from Mercury. The middle "ram" is the trim. One of the large "pistons" in a shock, the other is your tilt. Search for a used manifold, there are many marine bone yards on the internet, keep checking ebay, parts come and go. Call around Merc dealers with the part number that I posted. Also you just might run into a "parts only outboard." It will be hard to find but, they are out there. Good luck.

Thank for the information (again :) ). I'll keep searching for parts. I might swing by local hydraulic shops to see if anyone can salvage mine. I wonder if the part can be CNC, hell - might even be cheaper this way
