Help! Motor won't shift into forward gear.

I just got a Nissan NS70A2 and things were working fine until the other day when I could not get the throttle control lever to slide into forward. I checked the cable and lever, all is fine there. So I decided to inspect the problem at the motor. I removed the control cables and can manually slide the clutch arm backwards, which I assume is the reverse position, and I can easily return it to its neutral position. However I cannot slide it past neutral to its forward position. It feels locked at that neutral position with no give. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It won't shift correctly if the motor is not running, or at least the prop shaft needs to be turned by hand to engage gear.

Thanks for the response! I started the motor and had it warm up, it still will not shift into forward and follows the exact same conditions as my previous post. It just feels locked when I try to engage that forward gear. Much thanks in advance.

You may have something jammed, such as the clutch cam. I would verify nothing is blocking the linkage inside the cowling, then drop the LU and pull the prop shaft housing to see what is what.
