help! new to forum and boat engine work

I have a 1992 Mariner 9.9 and last year I had the carb worked on because it would not start. Once fixed, the engine cranked right up. I did not get to use after that one crank and the boat sat up for a year. Now, it will not crank. I put new gas and got it to crank for 4 seconds after cleaning gas filter. Also, it will crank when spraying starter fluid into the carb and run for a few a little bit then. Yesterday I opened it up at full throttle and it ran for about 5 seconds like that before dying out. When the engine started running the primer bulb lost all pressure as well and it will not always get firm when priming. Should I start with replacing the bulb or should I go straight to the fuel pump? Any help will be help this teacher and coach out!!!

pull the carb and clean it. fuel doesnt last a year before it turns bad

Will do! Does it matter that I emptied the old gas and put in new gas before I tried to crank again this year or was gas sitting in the carb the entire year? May seem like a dumb question, but I am new to the mechanic world. Thanks for the advice!

Explain crank, is it turning over just not starting, or is doing nothing.

Gas has a shelf life duration before it starts breaking down into materials that clog fuel delivery systems.

Depending on how much Ethanol percentage is in the gas will usually dictate how long your gas will stay fresh.

If you buy 100% gas with no Ethanol, you probably can go about slightly more than six months without any treatment before it begins to degrade significantly.

E10 Ethanol probably has between 30 to 60 days unstabilized before it begins to break down significantly.

Once E10 gas reaches a certain age, it will clog up carbs and fuel injectors.

To see how bad E10 impropely stabilized gas is for motors that sit for many months unused, look up Ethanol in carbs for youtube videos.

The longer bad gas sits in a carb or fuel injectors, the more difficult they are to clean.

The only thing Ethanol is good for is keeping the price of corn higher for farmers.

There are no Environmental or engine performance benefits of it.

Will entirely agree on your post's tech explanations. This is what E does to carbs when sitting for too long inside them..







In this clogging example, the Oill Refinery morons completely forgot to remove the corn leftovers....LOL!!
